One of the reasons I left Islam is because even though there is a movement to end violence against women, there is still a dramatic overtone of patriarchal superiority. If the Quran declares women are to protect men because "they were given more strength," it is declaring women incapable of protecting themselves. If someone has a gun to your head, does it matter who's male and who's female? My male cousin in Karachi was robbed at gunpoint in front of the same gate to our home just as easily as we were ( ... )

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying.. I have no answers.. but I share your sentiment.

the article alludes to the backlash it has already generated in Europe.. I'd be interested to see if anyone has the guts to show it here in the U.S.

Hmmm... Heavy subject matter, and it's about time, too! sinfidel September 27 2004, 14:05:36 UTC
I saw your link in photography, and popped over to your lj, whereupon I discovered some very interesting stuff.

I was born/raised Muslim, and .. well, naturally alot of the issues you post on feel very relevent.

I wish I could see this film you speak of.. It sounds groundbreaking and very important in the quest for opening a dialogue of truth!

I know, I wish I could see this film myself.. I'm trying to research if anyone is showing it in the U.S. but I can't find anything so far..

I know, me either.

But a friend is going to the Netherlands in a week or so and I'm trying to see if he can find it over there somewhere maybe?

It's worth a try!

cprrect me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 100 lashes thing is not a Quranic verse as the article says, but a Hadith?

Can I just say... it's about time that something like this was made.
Well, there have been other attempts, but so many things just come out looking like they are just aimed to show hatred toward God or a particular faith... I suppose it's about time someone looked specifically at Islam and WOMEN.

I personally feel that a lot of people have looked at Islam and Women but this is by far the most radical approach.

Perhaps a more radical approach is what's needed.
