Münchner Filmwerkstatt and Filmhaus Köln are both looking for young
people under 30 from all over Europe (but not from Germany) who are willing
to achieve an European Voluntary Service of 12 months in Munich or Cologne.
Accommodation and food are undertaken and you will receive pocket money,
languages courses and a lot of others services which are given under the
rules of the European Voluntary Service. Thus, people who are looking for a
practical experience after the end of their studies are entirely suitable
for such an experience. Concretely we are looking for volunteers in the
following domains:
Organization and management of seminars, workshops and courses
You help in the organization and management of seminars, workshops and
courses dealing with film making. This includes holiday courses for
children and teenagers as well as other educational offers to further
training for professional and aspiring filmmakers. In the beginning you
will assist in conducting individual activities and once you feel more
comfortable and confident, you will move on to take more responsibility.
Like for instance, the conception of your own workshop/seminar, public
relations and other areas which interest you. Of course, you are allowed
and have to attend the seminars and workshops, in order to extend your
knowledge on every aspect of film making. You work within a team with other
volunteers, trainers from the film industry and our employees. And you will
be involved in all rights and obligations -including running our training
studios, seminar rooms, etc. As a lot of seminars and workshops are given
during the weekends, you will have free days in the week as compensation.
Available places:
3 Volunteers in Cologne from January, February and March 2014 (each for 12
months)
2 Volunteers in Munich, one from spring and one from autumn 2014 (each for
12 months)
Eventually 2 volunteers in Babelsberg from January and February 2014 (each
for 12 months)
Organization and management of a Short Film Festival
KALIBER35 is a one-week short film festival, held in Munich in late June
since 2006. The event is traditionally organized by volunteers only. You
undertake the coordination of the project from the publication of the call
for entries, the search for suitable films, maintaining contact with our
festival alumni and visiting other festivals through the screening of
submitted films (hundreds or maybe thousands), program selection and the
invitation of the selected films and their makers, to the organization and
management of the event, contact and billing with supporters and sponsors,
the press and public relations through the website, social media,
newsletters, posters and flyers. What is also indispensable, is the good
documentation and constant reflection on all processes, so that your
successors would know how to tackle the project, just like you can fall
back on the experiences of your predecessors. Of course you will not carry
this project alone, but with other volunteers and trainees that you are
going to supervise and instruct. You can divide your time according to your
will - except during the festival itself, where you will hardly have time
to sleep... The tremendous variety of tasks and responsibilities for the
project contribute to its special appeal, but also its challenge.
Available places:
1 Volunteer in Munich from now (12 months)
1 Volunteer in Munich from mid-June 2014 (12 months following a month with
a fee-based contract)
Support and distribution of indie films projects
The support of independent films is the main aim of the Münchner
Filmwerkstatt. Seminars and the short film festival are indirectly linked
to this matter, but we undertake as well the support of selected projects.
To this you can help behind the scene with crowd funding and audience
development, social media activities and press production, submission to
festivals and online distribution. The challenge is to help the selected
films to visibility in the digital world. To achieve this, you will develop
and expand a community, increase the number of likes / followers /
subscribers / viewers, optimize the presentation, blog, twitter and much
more. Being a "digital native", platforms like Facebook, Google+, Twitter,
Vimeo, Youtube, Indiegogo, Kickstarter, Wikipedia, WordPress and others
already mean something to you. Being interested and motivated to understand
and put into practice each of the latest trends and updates, you will make
an important contribution to the success of independent films.
Available places:
1 Volunteer in Munich from 2014 (12 months)
If you are interested in one or more of these voluntary services, please
apply directly to the respective organization:
for a voluntary service in Munich at the Münchner Filmwerkstatt:

for a voluntary service in Cologne at the Filmhaus Köln:
efd@filmhauskoeln.de
To apply, please send a looooooong eMail about you and why you want to
enroll in this EVS. You should for instance address the following aspects:
* Where do you want to go in life? What interests you?
* Tell us about your relationship to cinema, film, and film making. Which
experiences do you have in this domain?
* Please tell us about your three favorite films. What fascinates you in
each of them?
* Have you ever visited a film festival? Or maybe taken part in organizing
one? Please, tell us which one(s) and about your experiences!
* Have you ever been a volunteer, for instance at school, during your
studies or in associations? What did you exactly do?
* Which education do you have? Which knowledge, capacities or skills would
you like to use and extend during the voluntary service?
* How would a voluntary service with us influence your life? What do you
plan to do if we cannot offer you a place?
* Do you have experiences abroad? Which languages do you speak and in which
level? And which computer program do you master?
* What are your strengths? What do you love doing? What are you especially
good at? And what are your weaknesses? What do you really don't like to do?
* Is there anything else you want to tell that we have to know about you?
Of course, we will be glad to answer your questions as well (while we
encourage you to research in our websites etc.). And please don’t forget
to send a photo of you.
Please understand that we cannot immediately respond to every application.
We pick out the candidates who seem particularly interesting and
appropriate to us, and discuss with them via Skype. Once we fill a place,
we will inform all applicants and let them know about possible
alternatives. More information is available
