Just tried it with a strat ...ankh156November 18 2009, 17:28:42 UTC
It honks.
You can feel that it's working under 2ohms, it's hot and lampy even at low volumes. Up to 5 it's progressively warm and clean. From 5 upwards it starts getting very fruity. After 7-8 it goes all thick and molten. You can hear the clear treble of the strings but the low-medium clips very smoothly with a nice edge, singing sustain and biting attack. 2ohms means there is nice valve compression from very early on. Clearly it's a bit wimpy under 3, but the heat pours on quickly and steadily from there on in. Pretty much as I remember it from 40 years ago. That one had been used loud for bass, so it's possible the speakers were slightly thrashed. This one's got brand-new Jensens, and they handle presence with ease. I think with a TSR9 this thing will go nuclear. A bit pricy, but highly recommended. I think for small gigs I'll still take the Performer but for bigger rooms with a drummer this one will set things alight !!
