Hospital; Mid-Afternoon

Private
Who: Anko and Kabuto
Where: Hospital
When: Mid-Afternoon
Warnings: None.

For once in some time, Kabuto felt well enough to get out of bed and sit somewhere else in the hospital room. It was a shared room, but the stay of his only room mate was minimal. Perhaps only a night long. He hand to keep his eyes covered still, both of his eyes. Somehow, he'd managed to move himself across the room without sight, following the warmth seeping in from outside. He'd sat near the door, a music player within one of his hands. There was light music playing over the earbuds he wore, while he'd lean near the window. The air conditioning was just too cold for him.

Anko stood outside the hospital, looking up at the sign to make sure she was at the right place.  She determined that it was indeed the place that held Kabuto prisoner.  As soon as she stepped in she determined where the elvator was, having already pre-established what room he'd be in.  The ride up was grueling and she was teetering on her heels in anxious anticipation.  The ding told her the ride was over and she bounced out.  In her right hand she carried a bag with some items in it: cookies, chocolates,

assorted stuff that would surely rot the strongest of teeth.  She'd picked at it on the way.  Since Kabuto couldn't see, he probably wouldn't notice.  And now, ash she walked into the room,he could probably hear the crunch of the plastic bag.  After a moments hesitations he stepped in cautiously.  "H-hey," she finally said.

Kabuto reached up and removed the tiny earbuds from his ears. The music wasn't blaring, he could hear Anko's enterance into the room. "It's .. Mitarashi-san, isn't it?" He carefully set the player down upon a nearby table. "It's been awhile," ...since I'd last seen you. But, that'll have to wait for sometime longer. He sat up and made sure his shoulders weren't slouching. "I'm sure you found the hospital without problems, right?"

"Yeah, it wasn't far from my apartment," she said, setting down the bag on the bedside table.  "I brought some stuff for you... hope you like sweets."  Anko always seemed to get along with Kabuto when they were in school together.  When she heard what happened she felt it was her duty to come see him.  She turned and leaned against the table she'd just set the bag upon.  She put her hands palm down, wrist out on either side for extra support.  "So, you feeling okay?  What did the doctor's say?"

Honestly, Kabuto didn't like sweets. He'd pick and pick at them all he wanted, but didn't actually eat them. It was rude to turn down a gift, however, so he'd just accept it. "Thank you." The doctors, including his own father, told him a lot of things. He'd just sort of blocked everything out after time. "It's still up in the air, if I'll remain blind in one eye. It all depends if a scar will be left or if it'll heal properly."

"Sorry to hear it," she frowned.  That had to be a downer, sitting in a hospital, unable to see and not sure if you'd ever see properly again.   "Want me to get you anything," she broke the few uncomfortable seconds of silence.  Anko loathed prolonged silences and she was not close enough to Kabuto to endure them with any kind of poise.  She planned to stay for a good long while too, as she hoped to make this visit count.  Anyway, she figured Kabuto was bored and lonely.

"A pair of socks, please." Requesting things from people which weren't his close friends, but if he remembered Anko from school accurately, it meant she'd get into things if she was bored. "They should be in my bag, I don't know where my father set it down."

To anyone else it might have sounded like an odd request.  But she wasn't just anyone else.  She immediately set to looking for the bag.  She spotted it crumpled up in a corner and immediately bounced on over and crouched on the ground.  She was unziping it seconds later and retrieved some predictably white socks.  "Don't you like colors," she asked, unaware that color would do him little good now.  She straightened and walked back towards him.  "Want me to put them on too?"

If he weren't concerned for his toes, he'd reply with a yes. Instead, Kabuto held out his hands for those socks. "No, that's fine. I'll put them on myself." The task may take longer than it should, but it was good to know he could do at least something on his own. "Mitarashi-san has calmed herself down over the years, or so it seems..." Kabuto couldn't see the way she'd walk, or if she were fidgeting at all. Still, even with a mind deluded by pain medications, Kabuto clearly remembered the kind of girl Anko was. Especially the snakes in the hair incident; or better known by the graduating class as the day Kabuto shrieked so loud the teacher's aid gnashed her teeth and lost hearing for a temporary amount of time. He couldn't help but to think she was acting the best way she could.

"We are in a hospital Kabuto-san," she smiled.  Anko had her limitations, at least some of the time.  She walked back around and made herself at home, sitting on the edge of the bed, since it was vacant.  Within moments she was swinging her feet back and forth in alternating motions, like a bratty child.  "So how long are you going to be holed up here?"  She couldn't imagine being stuck in a place like this for more than a day.  Anko would go mad and jump out the window.  But it was probably worse- on Kabuto, with his Dad being a doctor and all.  He'd probably end up staying here longer.  What rotten luck.

Kabuto lifted his shoulders to shrug. "We can't rush these things." He didn't want to dwell on the fact that he was in a hospital. The fact that he hadn't had a proper bath in awhile was horrifying enough. "So how long have you been in Tokyo? Did you just move here?"

"Just after graduation," she answered.  "I got an apartment with a friend and things are working out okay... except she drives me crazy sometimes."  It was hard to get along with someone such as Anko, and living with her was an even bigger challenge.  Someone really had to enjoy her eccentricities enough to enjoy spending so much time with her.

"Apartments do run small here," He'd come to observe this. If the apartments were larger, usually there had been something wrong with the apartment itself. He'd come to know that people don't tend to get along perfectly in small, cramped spaces. "...Do you still keep snakes, Anko?"

She giggled like it was an absurd question.  Anko had always been a reptile enthusiast and she was endlessly perplexed with the response she got to her beloved pets.  "Of course, do you even have to ask?"  Some people were dog people, some preferred felines.  She adored snakes.  If given the proper chance, snakes made wonderful pets.  "You should think of getting a little companion," she said playfully.  She could certainly see Kabuto with a little dog yipping at his heels.

Kabuto cringed when he heard this. What if Anko had the snakes on her person right now? To make things worse, he couldn't even see if she was about to stick one of those slimy bastards right in his face! Gross. "My mother has a lovely cat, I take care of it sometimes." He doesn't live with his mother, and it is rare he visits anymore.

"Cats are nice," she smiled politely.  They had a hint of the exotic, but not like a snake... very few anomals shared the intrigue of a snake.  But she remembered how Kabuto hated them so she decided to cut him a break and not go overboard conversing about them.  "So... you living with anyone," she teased, phrasing it so it might sugest he had a secret girlfriend.

Kabuto didn't hate snakes. Kabuto hated snakes slithering through his hair. Big difference. He was about to answer Anko's question with, 'My parents,' since he was a spoiled brat who was going to get a free ride all the way through college. But he'd listened in on how Anko asked the question, and understood. "I'm seeing someone, yes."

"Oh ho ho," she said a little too gleefully, practically hopping up and down on the edge of the bed.  "Do I know her?"  If the Fates were at all in her corner she would know the girl so she could gossip accordingly.  Of course, knowing Kabuto he might be unwilling to divulge such information to her.  It would be fun to pry it out of him if that was the case.

"I'm not so sure if you do know her..." Kabuto looked back toward where he thought his bag was. "In my wallet, there.. I have a few photos of her." The only reason why he trusted Anko with his wallet was because there weren't any credit cards or money in it. "Her name is Nemu."

She didn't wait for him to say her name, because she was already at the bag ina  second and digging for his wallet.  A few seconds later she pulled it out and sought out the picture.  "Hmmm, never seen her.  But it looks like you two are a good match," she called back to him, noting that the girl seemed the shy type.  She had a strange allure to her, and Anko was sure she'd have remembered her if she'd seen her.  After another quick inspection of the wallet for any other interesting items, she tossed it - back into the bag and found her way back to her seat on the edge of the bed.  "Has she been to see you?"

Their relationship had been through some trouble, but he heard these were the things good relationships were founded upon. Kabuto felt that Nemu was a good match for him. "Yes, she's been in to see me a few times."

"Well well, that does sound serious.  What do you two do for fun," she pried some more, genuinely interested in what Kabuto's love life might be like.  Hearing about other peopls's relationships was always fun.  Heaven knows her own were troublesome enough, it was good to live vicariously through people that had some semblance of a normal union.

The both of them had lived together for a short period of time, but other than that, it didn't look like more than the typical highschool romance. "I take her out a lot. To dinner, sometimes just to visit. A few weeks ago, we went to spend a weekend at the beach."

"Kabuto," she said with feigned shock.  "I didn't know you were such a romantic."  She was smilling rather broadly, so much so he might have heard it in her voice.  Maybe she was pushing it with the prodding and teasing, but he likely expected as much out of her.  She wasn't known for overly mature conversation, particularly when juicy flings presented themselves for her avid scrutiny.

Nonsense. Kabuto was pure, and everyone he has... relations... with was pure as well. Seriously. This almost made him blush. "What about you, Mitarashi-san?" It was only polite to ask in return.

Anko grew pale, and she was thankful Kabuto could not see the flush that followed.  "I... guess you could say I was seeing someone... sort of."  That familliar sense of dread washed over her, the fear to even voice a commitment.  "But it's no big deal," she added quickly, trying to play it off like it as a little more casual than what Kabuto had going.

Kabuto decided not to question the issue. He nodded before standing up out of that chair near the window. "I'm going to go sleep for awhile, I'm sure you won't mind..." His fingers traced against the wall as he walked, recalling the distance from the wall and his hospital bed. He found his way to the bed and sat down upon it.
