Grattis! :D

It is interesting with the Swedish minority in Finland, my mother was born Finnish-Swedish and come from a family where no one spoke Finnish. My grandparents didn't speak many words of Finnish, for instance. And the few relatives I have left in Finland and who are older, don't speak Finnish very well either. They find the change that has happened over the last few decades very difficult. But I suppose that is a change that is permanent. When I was a child, I spent all my summers in Finland, and no one ever had to speak any Finnish to get by, not even in Helsingfors (*g*). But I definitely understand the reluctancy to learn Swedish, it makes more sense to learn English, for ex, today. Even if I'm sad that part of my family's culture is slowly disappearing.
