ten fancies

Anne Shirley had an idea.

She had been nursing this idea for almost a month now, ever since Merlin came back to the City, but she didn't dare to ask. Arthur and Merlin already did so much for her; it seemed selfish to ask anything more of them. It still felt strange to her, living in a place where she wasn't expected to earn her keep. Food, clothing, shelter, affection...all were provided unconditionally. What more could a little orphan girl ask for?

But she looked out the window that afternoon, and knew that she wanted a birthday party.

Her "real" birthday, back in March, had been a miserable experience. Merlin was gone, and she and Arthur had their first fight. She had turned twelve the way she had turned eleven, and ten, and nine, and every other birthday -- uncelebrated.

But no longer. Anne meant to have a birthday party, even if it was a few months late. May was a much better month for a birthday, anyway.

After coming to this decision, Anne walked out of her room and looked around the apartment for Arthur.

Hear ye, hear ye!

You are all cordially invited to a picnic in Xanadu on Sunday, May 31st in honor of my birthday. Food and drinks will be provided, although we would love it if you could also bring some of your own so we can have a sampling of foods from different worlds. No other present is necessary.

Please RSVP on this post if you would like to attend.
