Vericon 2016 GoH Speech

Last year I was GoH at Vericon. It was a fabulous time! And while I was there, I gave a GoH speech. It’s the only one I’ve given so far, because usually organizers say something like “you can give a speech, or someone can interview you” and I go “INTERVIEW yes please interview me.”

I'm always disappointed when people push away a chance to get nice and think-y about a thing, because I I find doing that fun, and I like doing it with other people. But I realize not everyone feels that way, and even people who like doing it may not be in the mood at the particular moment.

But that's tangential. More broadly, I like your talk/essay very much indeed, and I can't agree strongly enough with what you bring up afterward: that if you put non-objective data in, you're going to get non-objective data out. And guess what. Pretty much all data is non-objective in some way or another.
