I get the newspaper itself and I've cut the page out to keep it. My admiration for him had been growing in recent years but it's just taken a quantum leap. He has shown immense courage; it takes a massive amount to say "people I have been associated with for a long, long time are wrong and I am cutting links".

I'll be lending it to "my daughter the theologian"; she didn't get her copy yesterday and when I told her about it, she was delighted. Particularly since he kicked off with her favourite quotation.

He has always appeared to be genuinely trying to think about and apply his theology in his life and actions. Made a lot of enemies in the process, even though he doesn't spend time in feuds. He wasn't an effective President, but he's been a wonderful elder statesman.

The Elders are interesting: mixed genders and races, all older.

Thank you VERY much for pointing this out/posting it.

My respect for Mr. Carter has grown throughout the years and this certainly adds to the lustre.

I, too, need to find out more about the Elders. http://www.theelders.org/
