[Wandering the lands beyond his castle, Prince Cain of the Grey Grove suddenly spies a shimmer of blue through the trees. Not the sky, nor a river or pond--no, this might be more of a fairy or nymph of a river, though. Quietly, the slips through the trees drawing closer.]

[Princess Anne now sits on a fallen log, weaving together flowers that the birds and squirrels bring her. One little bluejay brings her a rose.]

[She takes it and breathes deeply, her eyes closing blissfully.]

Roses are such romantic flowers.

[Now coming through the ferns and moss towards her, quietly, creeping along, wanting to surprise her but not, perhaps, to frighten her.]

[She jumps, and the birds and squirrels all scatter. Her initial alarm quickly fades, as it is her nature to trust, and she gives the newcomer a friendly smile.]

Sometimes I like to imagine that when two lovers die, their souls become one and are reborn into a rose.
