Lord of the Rings:The Musical

I finally saw Lord of the Rings: The Musical yesterday!

It was great! There was a lot of dancing, fight scenes, and the hobbits were funny! The scenery was amazing, very well done, and really contributed to the mood of everything. Actually, it was more of a play than a musical. It didn't have that much singing, and I really concentrated more on the plot than anything else.

All in all, it was pretty true to the books. Although, a few things were off:

~Frodo got stabbed when he put on the ring in Bree, when it was supposed to happen on Weathertop

~Aragorn healed Theoden, and Gandalf first reappeared in battle, so they didn't meet in Fangorn Forest

~Eowyn told Aragorn that she was heading into battle

~Aragorn didn't go down the Paths of the Dead

These are just little things, I didn't mind them. Now here are the ones that irked me, somewhat:

~ Apparently, Saruman joined Sauron because he thought he could use the ring for good. Funny, I thought he just wanted power and didn't want to be on the losing side.

~ After Boromir died Aragorn decided to go South to Gondor and Rohan, to finally claim his birthright and reunite his people. Odd, I though he and the others were going that way to rescue Merry and Pippin.

And, of course, there were a few glitches in their characterization:

~ Pippin was portrayed as somewhat dumb, with his voice and the things he said. I just didn't like it.

The actor that played Gandalf, his speaking voice, well, just wasn't Gandalf. It was too calm and mild, there just wasn't enough character in it.

~Arwen kept on appearing and singing some sort of love song. Yes, I know it's supposed to happen because it's a musical, but I'm slightly dissappointed she got so much stage time because it reminded me of the movie and I'm sort of anti Movie!Arwen.

But anyway, enough negativity, on to the things I REALLY liked:

~ The scene where Gandalf fights the barog. It was so cool! Wind started blowing, the balrog went all red, and then he exploded, scattering bits of crepe paper at us. Lame description, I know, but it's cool, honest.

~The fight scenes. They were very nicely chrographed, and the lighting, as well as the mood of everything was just brilliant. Actually, in one of these scenes, it kinda looked liked the orcs were dancing, not like fight-dancing, but in a really funny way, and that amused me.

~The scene with Shelob. It was really neat, she appeared to be made up of sticks, and snuck up on Frodo when he was talking.

~Saruman. He was just so dramatic, and had a wonderful speaking voice.

~Gollum. It was so awesome how he portrayed all those mood changes. You know, sad one moment, angry the next. Also, it was cute how he sang Frodo and Sam's little song.

~ The scene with the Bruinien(sp?)river where Elrond cast some sort of spell. All these white sheets were swirled around into a cone from where they were suspended from the ceiling, and this image of charging white horses was lighted on them. Great special effects right there.

~Where they're in the Prancing Pony at Bree, and Frodo sings his song. Everybody joins in, they start to dance, it's all very lively and upbeat. And then he disappears, and it's truly clever how it's done. You hardly see it coming, and for a moment you're like "Where'd he go?"

Anyway, I loved it. Great scenery, lighting, special effects, ect.

My final verdict: SEE IT. SEE IT NOW.

Oh, and I'll be adding things here that I forgot, making other entries related to the musical, and stuff like that now, but bare with me.
