I just read the following in an amazon review for the Buffy novel Queen of Slayers, which is reported to be the unofficially-official continuation of the series:

I don't know if I should spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the book, but I would advise not to read any way...what the heck...here it is...we all get to see/hear about Angel and Spike' ( Read more... )

From browsing on Amazon, it seems like most of the Angel novels take place during the early part of the first season. I've read mixed reviews but some of them sound interesting.

I actually did read the "City of..." novelization. I liked it because the author was mostly just expanding on what Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt already wrote, but also because it contained a scene that was cut from the episode. Hehe. ^_^
