From the message that went out to the NAG lists: >>We have now started what will be our regular ringing schedule. Sunday service ringing is from 10:30am to 11:15am, and from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Practice night is Wednesday, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Visitors of all experience levels are very welcome on both Sundays and Wednesdays - advance notice is helpful via an e-mail to bells@trinitywallstreet.org .
We will be holding an open ringing event over the weekend of July 6th - 8th. A variety of practice ringing, service ringing and a quarter peal or two is planned (together with the usual post-ringing proceedings), starting late Friday afternoon and finishing Sunday evening. If you are interested in attending, please let us know via an e-mail to bells@trinitywallstreet.org . A more detailed schedule for the weekend will follow once we have an idea of numbers.<<
Thank you. (one of these days I'll get on mailing lists and such...)
So, I could go to practice and maybe Sunday ringing, but not the NYC ringing weekend. Still, that would make it somewhat more worthwhile to go to NYC.
My guess is it's much cheaper to stay in Toronto than in NYC, unless I can find a hostel for less than $62/night within travel distance from the FIT campus, especially as there might be people in Toronto willing to put up visitors for a few days.
The model you're thinking of is "The Last Waltz" by Neal Elias. There's a picture of Tony Cheng folding a tiny one here, some others here, and diagrams can be found in this BOS booklet. (Sorry, I don't know of any online diagrams.)
I know that the invited guests to the OUSA convention this year will include Akiko Yamanashi, Yoshizawa's wife, and Satoshi Kamiya. In addition, I know that a large contingent of origami tessellation addicts will be coming this year, so there should be a lot of tessellation action happening.
Yes, that's probably the one I was remembering, though I thought there was also a pair of dancers doing specifically tango. Oh well. Maybe I'll have to design that model... when I become clever enough with paper!
Speaking of clever enough, I'm not sure how much sense it makes to go to convention when I spend so little time folding. I mean, there is a clear solution to that... like, I could take paper (and possibly a book) with me places, rather than knitting, and read more books, but the point is, I haven't yet. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not sure I'm cool enough. Not that there is much that's likely to change that opinion.. And tessellations *are* cool.
Hey, it's me! Cool. I really ought to find or rewrite diagrams for that dragon, and submit them for the convention booklet this year, regardless of whether I attend.
I don't know how you should decide what to teach. Something you really like? That usually works the best.
Also, here's a hostel very close to FIT: http://www.chelseahostel.com/ I know that there are some other OUSA convention-goers who will be staying there.

If cost weren't an issue... Well, in theory I'll have a job soon...

BTW, you should look at this OUSA scrapbook of last year's convention if you haven't already.
