WTF? Is this some kind of weird doctor patient headfuck game they play with people? Keep annoying the crap out of both their secretaries until you get a straight answer, or see if you can get them in the same room while you point a gun to their heads and demand answers.
That is super fucked. I hope they can get their shit together and let you know where you're at. Emotionally, this isn't exactly easy under the best of conditions.
Your letter should get them talking to each other so everyone's on the same page. I bloody hope so anyway. If this doesn't work I think you should make a formal complaint quickly and very loudly.
Copy to PALS, and ring them up today to chase it up. My parents had to do this when my mum was ill, and an appointment went missing. They found someone in the hospital's call centre (called Tracy, of all the random things to remember) who went storming in on their behalf and tore strips of everybody and two hours later my mum knew what was happening and had an appointment for the next day.
AAARGH. Honestly, I think NHS medical care is first-rate, but I barely know anyone who has had a serious illness that hasn't had at least one major administrative fuck-up somewhere along the way. Sod all this stuff about what the NHS needs is more doctors and nurses and fewer administrators: if the paperwork isn't in the right place at the right time, they can't bloody DO the medical stuff!
PALS. YES. Jo, do this, or is there anyone who can do the phone-sitting-on for you and hand over when they actually get through to a human being? I've done that for my mum over stuff because sitting on hold is incredibly stressful when you're already upset.
I have done exactly this and PALS were really good. They are taking it up with the department management and have assured me I will have full written clarification within 5 days. Also that I can pursue it and make a formal complaint if I want to.
Meanwhile I had a call from Mr Gommersall's secretary inviting me to see him first thing Monday morning. She doesn't know why or what for, just that it had come as a referral from Mr Adab yesterday. I can't help wondering (hoping) that maybe he found some definitive proof that it is superficial after all and I'm being referred back for the op. I won't find out until Monday and am trying hard not to bank on anything but it is really hard to ignore this glimmer of a possibility.
Christ. As if cancer isn't stressful already. You must be furious, though that's a very reasonable email! I think mine would be along the lines of 'WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS GOING ON?'

Hope it gets resolved very, very quickly.
