Sorry I squeezed your lights out, there, son.

You guys, some glorious person started an NBC kink meme, nbckink -- the first post is up here. There are tons of amazing Parks prompts, along with other NBC shows like Community and 30 Rock and, hilariously, SVU (plus older stuff like Friends and Seinfeld!). You should all go there and write stuff, especially rare Parks pairings, because there are some ( Read more... )

It's perfect because I feel the ways I want them to get together are all very dirty and inappropriate and vaguely incesty and perfect to say anonymously on a kink meme. Or publicly here in your journal? Um.

UGH I KNOW, RIGHT? Everything I want to do with Ron/April is, like, the dirtiest, and I don't feel like the fandom can handle it. SO ANONYMOUS IS PERFECT. And hahaha, in my journal, exactly. This is a zone where creepiness is permitted!

(It's so funny to go to a sitcom fandom post-Jonas Brothers fandom because, uh, the calibration is so different? For instance, I saw someone calling the Ben/Leslie fic I cowrote "very raunchy" and I was like "... it was? But it was vanilla het sex between two fictional consenting adults! No one was underage or dubconned or even related to each other!!!! WHAT!" Hahaha. That's healthy.)

Party Down leaves me feeling sick a lot of the time. Because the people are all so awful. And not even in a nuanced, I've-got-flaws-but-I'm-human way. I totally agree with you about Roman. Just ew. Also, all I spend most of the time thinking Rob Thomas, I used to defend you. But you really are rapey.

Ugh, right? It's so unpleasant to watch most of the time, even though I love Henry/Casey super hard. And haha, yeah, I totally blame Rob Thomas for the rapey misogyny, which probably isn't totally fair, but TWO STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT, THOMAS. It kind of bums me out because I usually really like Adam Scott in interviews (AND PAUL RUDD, FOR THAT MATTER) but both of them being involved in creating it makes me think less of them. D:

I feel like they watched a lot of Curb your Enthusiasm and Christopher Guest movies and were going for sort of an over the top something, but didn't realize that a) Larry David is a ridiculous curmudgeon who says outrageous things but is totally called on it by everyone else on the show and b) Christopher Guest movies have humor that relies on believing that the characters are humans that are sympathetic because they are flawed.

Instead Party Down is just sociopaths in a crappy job who screw over anyone for anything and no one is ever called on their rapey misogynistic shit.

Man, totally -- I feel like actually if they took Roman off the show, it might ALMOST work in the vein of those shows, because, for instance, the character of Ron kind of works in that way. He says racist things sometimes, but the show seems to clearly disapprove, and he's so pathetic you at least feel some sympathy for him. But you can't just have Roman out there without REALLY REALLY STRONGLY putting him in his place, and the show just does not do that. Especially when there are, like, extras with naked boobs as props in every episode -- it does not exactly make for an environment that is otherwise friendly to women not being objects. (I read an interview about the show that said that Starz pushed them to have more nudity, which made me feel a little better about the creators not being the ones driving that, but STILL.)

HEE, thank you, I wanted a graphic of that nature but was too lazy to go find one. (Which, speaking of that impulse, is it just me, or does tumblr start to make it hard to think in a non-graphic way? It like takes actual effort to use my words instead of expressing myself only in gifs, haha.) Mannnn, Office rewatching sounds so nice, I miss those days. And like, I don't actually really want Office fic in this kink meme, but it is a little shocking to me how few Office prompts there are. Aww, how fandoms die.

Someone REALLY needs to do that with Henry/Casey, GOD. Plus it'd be so much easier to tell people to watch it if you didn't have to be like, "BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE LADY-HATING, IT'S UNPLEASANT."

Oh god, tumblr has wrecked me. It's a combo of how instantaneous it is and how much easier it is to post a picture and let it explain for itself why it made you laugh, I think. I barely know how to talk about TV on LJ anymore because I feel like it's a) been gif-ed to death on tumblr and b) harder, why can't i just tag my post #lollerskates #dying rn #and then i will put my mouth on his mouth and let everyone reblog it if they agree? (Oh god, no, I don't want to read Office fic, especially not in a kinkmeme. That's a short trip to licked coffee cups. But it's nice to watch it and feel removed from the whole thing, ngl. Like flipping through a yearbook and remembering inside jokes.)

We did NOT have an aggressively long conversation about that, but we REALLY SHOULD, because that show is pretty much the worst. Like, it's not even that the show offended me (though it did) -- it actually more MADE ME UNEASY, as though the show itself could rape me. Which is crazy but how I felt, like I needed to keep my eye on my drink while it was on the screen. I actually did quit watching it once I got through the first couple episodes of the second season, because I could not take it anymore, but then when Parks came back my Adam Scott feelings compelled me to finish it, haha. And also siiigh. You couldn't convince anyone that it's super misogynistic?? THAT IS EVEN MORE DEPRESSING, oh my God, how much more overt does it need to be?

Ugh, Rob Thomas. It actively makes me worry about Adam Scott and Paul Rudd, since apparently they're BEST FRIENDS with him or whatever. Ew. Hahaha, God, though, yeah, I hadn't thought of VMars in those terms, but she totally is -- she and Katniss should talk sometime, except they'd inevitably hate each other. IRONY.

I could kiss that NBC kink meme on the mouth for the Tom/Leslie prompt alone.

I almost feel like going in there and shaking up all the Ben/Leslie prompts by asking for, like, Mark/Leslie and Dave/Leslie and Ben/April and Ben/Ann. TAKE THAT, MOST POPULAR 'SHIP! It is a confusing feeling to have because I love Ben/Leslie a lot, but apparently not when it's in HOSTILE TAKEOVER mode on an anonymous kink meme? Who knows. I don't understand my feelings right now.

Every prompt I saw for SVU made me laugh, and then stop and think, "Self, that sounds sexy. Hope for someone to write it!" I don't even regularly watch that show, what is wrong with me?!

Oh man, I know, right, Tom/Leslie! GOOD WORK, ANON.

And hahaha, yeah, I know what you mean, I'm totally having Ben/Leslie BACKLASH feelings which is ridic, because I am so crazy about the ship on the show. Buuuut the fic is mostly boring, I'm sorry. YES, WE ALL WANT HER TO PUT HER MOUTH ON HIS MOUTH, THAT DOES NOT A STORY MAKE. It's hilarious to me how much Ben/Leslie is dominating everything else from every show, like, uh, I guess you can tell that the main canon pairing on Parks finally kissed right before the meme went live, huh.

You should totally ask for Mark/Leslie! And Dave/Leslie! AND BEN/APRIL AND BEN/ANN. God, I would read all those so hard.

Ahahaha, I HAVE THAT EXACT SAME REACTION TO SVU -- it's like, "LOL THAT SHOW EXISTS" and then like "... actually I would read Benson pegging Stabler, now that you mention it." I haven't watched that show in like 3 years at least! And yet.

I think it might have just been too long since I was shipping the mainstream most popular pairing in a fandom (actually the last time I shipped a canon ship this hard was Farscape, and that was way after that fandom had ended), because it just doesn't sit right with me. MY IMMEDIATE IMPULSE IS TO JUDGE. THERE'S OTHER GREAT STUFF THAT COULD HAPPEN. JUST BECAUSE I AGREE WITH YOU DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE NOT STUPID. It doesn't even make any sense.

Haha, God, right? My backlash impulse comes so fast it's ridiculous, even if I, like, didn't sleep after Leslie and Ben kissed. I'm still like, YOU GUYS ARE CLEARLY NEGLECTING THE POSSIBILITIES INHERENT IN RON/TOM, GOD, WHY SO SINGLEMINDED. I'm glad you're on the fandom weirdo train with me. I CAN'T COPE WITH BEING A NON-WEIRDO, I IMMEDIATELY WANT TO WRITE SPITEFIC WHERE BEN AND LESLIE BREAK UP, EVEN THOUGH IF THEY ACTUALLY DO ON THE SHOW I WILL HAVE A BREAKDOWN.
