So I was thinking yesterday that I really need to work on just saying what I want when I want to. What I mean is I will have something I will want to say but then analyze it 10 different times and by the time I get around to it the subject has totally changed or I convinced myself not to say it. I always worry about what what people are going to ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. It is hard to weed out what you want to say, vs, what you need to say, vs what the audience needs to hear. I have the same problem. But, I agree that you cannot just go around saying what you want regardless of consequences, and that there has to be a balance between saying nothing and saying too much. I think for an exercise, around people you are close to, just say what ever comes to mind without thinking. These people will be accepting and realizing that you are working on yourself.

Hopefully, with this bluntness and opinion driven background with comfortable people, you will be able to say more around people that you are not as comfortable with.

I hope that helps!

I think you can use 2 questions to screen your comments as a quick and dirty test.
The first?
Is this Kind?
The second?
Will I hurt someone else?
As for you worrying about sounding silly or stupid?
Not a problem, I have NEVER heard you be stupid or silly.
As for anything else?
I think you are ok.

I like the questions C brought up. Good filters. Second, I've been dealing with this lately and learned recently that using tact, sort of like C's filter questions, can help when broaching subjects that are difficult. Also, I've never found you to be stupid or silly, just quiet. I'd love seeing more of your bubbly, interactive side.

Good luck!
