For some reason I don't remember that Andie/Pacey scene, even though I probably should since I shipped them (before the epicness that I thought Joey/Pacey was at the time). Hunh.
Whenever I see that scene in Almost Thirty Years - once I get past the incredibleness that is Emily's face throughout that entire scene - I always think of Ron Rifkin on the Almost Thirty Years cast commentary. He talks about what JJ said to him when he was directing Ron in that scene - how they filmed Ron saying this whole big speech and then JJ was like "we won't hear a word of that and it's going to be GREAT." Hands down one of my favourite Alias scenes. The music is perfect, as is Amy Irving.
REBELLION LIES, OMG BEST. Whenever anyone asks me about the best use of music in a tv show, I still think of that final sequence (but only with Rebellion Lies, not whatever Snow Patrol song they replaced it with in the aired pilot). It is still so perfect to me, even though, like you, I don't think the pilot is that great anymore.
ugh, that Felicity scene is still one of my favorite things. You're right that Bolero doesn't make their scenes on its own, since they are awesome enough as it is, but I do really love the inclusion of that song in those scenes.
And yesss, The Black Donnellys ended up being a huge disappointment (I haven't watched the pilot since back before the show even aired, so I can't say how I'd feel about the pilot specifically if I watched it now), but god that song is such perfection in that sequence.
