Oy I love that little bit with Arya and Gendry..."I should've been calling you Milady!" I may or may not have rewatched that several times. Too funny!

I haven't really read the books, so i can't comment on the rest. I don't know if I should try to read them or not. I don't want to be comparing as I watch the show :\

Yeah, this ended up being a lot of comparison; I'm still planning to write up my thoughts about the second book, so I'm sort of saving my thoughts on the actual events of the story for when I do that.

But oh I'm especially interested in your thoughts as someone who hasn't read the books! Who are your favorite characters? When did you start liking Cersei and Jaime, if ever? How do you feel about Robb/Talisa? Do you understand Jon/Dany shippers like me?

Yea, that happened to me when I read the Sookie Stackhouse books. The show has finally deviated enough from the books that that has stopped....sorta.

My favorites are probably Dany, Arya, Brienne, Tyrion. Cersei too, but I think part of that stems from my love of all things Lena Headey. I tried to read book 2 after Season 1 because I wanted more Dany, only to discover SHE DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I was disappointed and gave up.

Cersei I warmed up to in Season 1, and Jaime not until Season 3. Robb/Talisa came out of fucking nowhere if you ask me! They were cute in Season 2, but Season 3 opened with them suddenly married with no explanation. I'm still confused about the whole thing. I don't understand the Jon/Dany ship...yet ;) I thought it was just a ship based on how cute the actors were together.

Yeah, Dany really doesn't do anything in the second book. Jon doesn't really do much either; they both just kind of wander around the wilderness until the very end of the book. And Jon/Dany, at least for me, mostly comes from all the parallels in their narratives like that. Like they're both outcasts who fall in with wildling communities. And they're the only characters connected through both Targaryens (Dany herself/Viserys & Maester Aemon) and Mormonts (Jorah & the Old Bear). And it gets more obvious as the series goes on that both their character arcs are really about them becoming leaders. So I'm just dying for them to meet and compare life experiences and fall in love and rule the world as true partners ( ... )
