I need to get out of the habit of starting my quantum homework the morning of the day on which it's due. That is a bad idea even though apparently I'm smart enough to have been getting away with it for the past 2 weeks. Sometimes, I hate being that smart. It makes me so fucking lazy ( Read more... )

My grandmother used to write letters like those, usually to chastise her daughters and granddaughters for not getting married or something. Actually, she has my grandfather do it, but pretty much dictates them. If she's really upset, we'd get a phone call, with her in the background occasionally telling him what to say.

Most recently--well into Alzheimer's--we got a call from him: he claimed he was upset that my mother was changing back to her maiden name. "It's a perfectly fine name you have now--what is it again?" Woods, she said. "Oh. And what are you changing it to?" Lieblich. His name, of course. "Oh. Well that's not so bad." He seemed confused as to why he'd called in the first place.

This has little to do with your story, I just thought maybe it would cheer you up.
