I don’t read the Buffy comics, though I do read reviews, recaps, discussions and any panels I can find. I’ve heard about and/or seen most of the Spuffy panels from #8.
I'm up for a long diatribe here - but I don't think it's appropriate on someone else's journal :)
The thing for me is they started so well in this season. Spike's "Not this year" is a wonderful setup for the way Spuffy could have worked out. Snarky and separated. Buffy has to pursue it if she wants it. But instead they went the tired route of him pining and declaring his feelings while she gets the "ooooh maybe - [you're] in my heart/ I not ready for you not to be here/does it have to mean something" out. Beyond irritating.
I believe the change in direction is because they've written themselves into a corner. Spike is dull in this place and the writers know it. Let him get back to the single eyebrow raising/head tilt of wisdom insightful fella. We could all cheer then and hope for the future.
Otherwise, let it go. Let him go to London - an Angel and Faith snarkfest would be a joy.

Yes! That's exactly what I was hoping for. And I was silly enough for a bit to think they might actually do it. Should have known better. :-/

You're probably right. Although I don't really believe that people really write themselves into a corner. (With a few rare exceptions.) I think if a good writer puts his or her mind to it, there's always a way to turn it around. I just don't think they care enough about him or the Spuffy relationship to make the effort.

I don't read the comics any more either. It's safer that way :)
Can I just say how much I hate the “Dollhouse” aspect of the story? My apologies to those who loved that show, but the premise really bothered me and I was never able to enjoy the few episodes I watched.
Me neither. I had to stop watching it. My trust in and enthusiasm for Joss's work waned a lot with Dollhouse so hearing about aspects of it recurring in the comics does disturb me.
But the hard truth is, they don’t want to resolve it one way or another, any more than they want to resolve Bangel
No, and that's the real problem for me. Knowing that they will always leave it unresolved and one step forward will for ever mean two steps back means that the whole thing has become a story that I've lost interest in. I'll never lose the Spuffy love but it exists for me in fanfic now, not the comics.

Sad, but very true.

Heh. That would be fun, wouldn't it?

If I recall, someone wrote a little thing along those lines...
