you know, there is a great tradition of translations into german and the translators have very often done remarkable jobs. i think Fritz Gattinger did a great job of translating this book and if you want to blame anyone for "nasty editorializing" it should be me. but then again, i don't know what you mean by "nasty editorializing." certain cultural references cannot be literally translated because they don't mean anything. i know that the sausage speared part and the minstrel man part didn't turn out the same as in the original. but then again. it's a back translation and it was part of the exercise to see what would happen. and if you could leave your name instead of posting anonymously that would be great, too.

isn't it weird how the translation turned out in comparison to the original?
