Still on the topics of Deep Space 9, Cardassians, and Gul Dukat, I'm afraid. I was struck by a comment in an online discussion of DS9 that the episode 'Indiscretion' (where Dukat finds, and fails to kill, his illegitimate, half-Bajoran daughter Ziyal) is almost half-way through the entire run of the show, and affects everything that happens ( Read more... )

Nicely done, and, I think, very in-character for both of them. Of course, what pushed Dukat over the edge altogether was Damar's murder of Ziyal. And yet Damar, by most standards, was not an evil man. Limited and brutal, but he grew. Dukat did not. Or rather, he began to, and this tragedy pushed him backwards. He was certainly an egotist, even in his love for his daughter.

I wonder, have you had a chance to look at "the Never-Ending Sacrifice" yet?

Well, I would still contend that it was the scriptwriters who pushed him backwards, rather than anything inherent in his character or situation! But I'm glad you liked the story. And no, I'm still hoping to get hold of a copy of 'The Never-Ending Sacrifice', but haven't managed it yet.
