A man named Bob

Ah, Twin Peaks. Who else has fallen under the spell? I know it's a little before our time ("our" meaning the people who read this), and the first season is apparently hard to come by, but who's with me on this? It's maybe the weirdest show on American television, and, so I've heard, raised the bar substantially for TV film quality. The first season ( Read more... )

So you liked the ending, but it was bad in the non-happy sense right? I've never seen it, but I've always wanted to.

I myself enjoy unhappy endings as well. It always seems so contrived when good things just start suddenly happening to all the good people towards the end of a film, especially when they leave out someone who did well (useually the main persons sidekick). Unhappy endings, or at least mixed endings give you more of a chance for complexity and a better way to convey what life is all about.

Of course this isn't including "sad" endings, where the main charictor sacrificies themself, but it's still an overally sappy ending (especailly when the sacrifice is reveresed).

I hope this made sense, I just spent the day doing crazy physical and mental stuff at work...

Sorry it took me so long to reply! Where did June go? Anyway, yeah, the ending is bad in a not-happy sense. Since you'd like to see that show, I won't say any more about it. I really wanted to write more specifically about the ending in my post, but I always hate when people spoil endings and I didn't want to be *that* person. Anyway, I own the first season on DVD. I can make a copy for you if you're interested. I think you'd probably like it a lot.

Yeah, I agree about complexity. And I agree that an ending where a character sacrifices himself/herself somehow doesn't fall into the category of "unhappy endings," at least if that's what the character intended all along. "The Wicker Man" (original-not the Nicholas Cage version) is an example of the kind of plot I really like. But everyone's different.

I'd definatly be interested if you were willing to burn me a copy.

I've not seen either Wickerman, although I do know how the origonal ends, (I saw just the ending once, I seem to know more movies by piecmeal catching than by seeing straight through) and thought it was pretty neat.

June dissapeared for me as well, work has gone crazy-go-nuts and suddenly the end of May was the end of June!

Course I'd be willing! But crap, you wouldn't happen to have a PAL format DVD player, would you? I just remembered that the copy I own is in PAL. But I'm sure you can bit torrent that thing like there's no tomorrow.

The Wicker Man rocks. And the soundtrack is nice too!
