Are you in Japan now? Ruth and I want to go and hopefully will go April 2009 (which is really really far away). Saving up the money is the toughest part, we need 2500 pounds just for the flights and hotel, then some spending money to live off. It would be a dream holiday though!

Yep, I'm here now. I might even still be here in April 2009, but that's a pretty slim chance. Yes, Japan's awesome but I'll be damned if it isn't one of the most expensive places in the world to go on vacation. For one thing, hotels charge per person, not per bed. So, while in the U.S. it's possible to save money by squeezing a bunch of friends into one hotel room, that won't fly in Japan. But you and Ruth should come. It'll be worth every penny. And if you happen to visit my area (Aomori, the northernmost part of Honshu and just across the water from Hokkaido), and if I'm still here, you're both welcome to crash on my floor for free.
