I bought about 3 or 4 bridal magazines and used them to get an idea of styles and themes, rather than a specific dress or supplier. Once I'd bought a few, they all started to be the same. I did, however, use a checkllist from one right up to the wedding day itself and some of the basic advice was handy.
I chose my suppliers from a local directory picked up at a wedding fair. Local wedding fairs are damned handy, because those kind of suppliers aren't exactly the kind of shops you check out every day.
I went to one at the venue. They just had 1 or 2 businesses for each thing (DJ, dress shop, florist etc), all very local, all with past experience working at the venue. Paula may mean something slightly less tiny
1) I have driven a significant number of vans in my time. As long as they're well maintained, I find them much of a muchness, so take your pick between a Transit, Sprinter, Transporter (OK, the '72 Transporter camper I used to drive wasn't easy, but it had style!) etc
