My sister just sent me this link, and now I'm in tears.

I wish that everyone would have to read this before they surrender their animal to a shelter, or even before they decide to breed their animal. I can't imagine how I would feel if I ever had to give up Rosie or Juniper. While I was pregnant, I had this fear that the baby would have an allergy ( Read more... )

I really hate this letter for a lot of reasons. But the hopeful thing to me is it doesn't have to be this way. I am failing at finding the right article but this link is a good place to start.

the few times we've had to give up a pet for whatever the reason, we've always tried (and managed) to give them to a neighbor or family member rather than taking them to the pound. fuck kill shelters--seriously. fuck 'em. not the people who work there necessarily (come on--this post came from an employee), but the policies in place that require the animals to be killed.

This is incredibly sad D:

(however,it IS possible that some places don't allow pets and sometimes you just can't find anything else. I don't know what the situation is in Canada or the US but here many landlords won't allow cats or dogs.)
