Ah, well. This brought back memories. Even when Eowyn was only 10 days old in the hospital and we weren't sure what was wrong with her I walked past someone putting on scrubs and other protective gear to go into a child's room and I thought--it could be worse. Of course, at this point they'd told us it was almost certainly not meningitis. When meningitis was still a possibility, before we'd gotten the "probably clear" on that, I'd have been pretty damn hard pressed to find something that I considered worse than my situation. Meningitis in a 10 day old baby is fatal way, way, WAY more often than seems feasible in our "modern" era of medicine. But once I knew it was likely NOT that, it was heartbreaking to look around that floor and wonder what nightmare the other parents (and children) were facing. :-(
