I was going to say "did he write with a pen and paper"? If so, then he could do it slowly and carefully without making typos.
Plus, you know, I've had good luck NOT looking at the keyboard and just typing when I've had my glasses off and I needed to write an email (this is assuming I actually have my fingers on the correct keys -- as you may or may not know, I have vision somewhere in the 20/600 range without glasses, and that means seeing the keys is impossible anyhow.)
Joyce probably wrote long-hand. His editor would have had it type-set in hot lead before it saw a type-writer! Otherwise touch typing helps (that's what the bumps are for on the F and J keys)
Might I suggest a monocle for your good eye? I've always fancied wearing one, I always thought would fit with my eccentric personality, but it would probably just look funny now ...
You could always try that "speaking naturally" program? www.nuance.com/ It involves 'dragons' ... sort of?!
Anyway, I'm glad you are getting back into the thick of it. Missed you.
