I Write Fanfic Meme

Found this on
campylobacter s LJ  here

1. Describe your comfort zone-a typical you-fic.
H/c, angst, kidfic. And Jack/Daniel love (from teen rated to NC17 rated, everything goes)

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
A mild form of BDSM - but am not brave enough to explore that in my own writing for some reason.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

Deathfic where someone of the main character truly dies with no way of returning. Fics that deal with cancer or any other long terminal illness that leads to someone dieing. I had enough of that in real life, I do not need that in fic.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
Two or three. One is a sequel to SJD and the other one is a sequel to „Things to do in Paris“

5. Share one of your strengths.
So far I’ve always finish stories I started eventually.

6. Share one of your weaknesses.

Editing and tweaking a story over and over and over and over...

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Simply because I have never written from Teal‘c‘s POV before and this was a great challenge to do... though I loosely borrowed a line from Stephen King’s “IT” in this one - and only realized that after I posted the story LOL.

From ‚Resurrection VII - Reunion‘

There was nothing but decay. A cocoon of black, heavy shroud that enclosed his mind. No sense of time, no energy left to fight. The bitter taste of kek was all around him. A foul and dishonorable taste, him being the core of it.

He opened his eyes to the bright light of the candles which usually accompanied his kel'no'reem.

The day had finally come. He could feel the restless stirring in his pouch, could sense the agitation of his symbiote. It wanted out. It craved a host. It believed its time was here to rule and to conquer.

Today you will die, Teal'c thought with faint satisfaction. You will not conquer, you will not rule and you will not enslave. You will only die. By my hand.

The symbiote quivered in its cage that had been its womb for so long. It heard Teal'c's thoughts, but it didn't believe. IT was god. IT was evil. IT was almighty. How could IT die?

Evil. But foolish.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

From SJD „What lies within“

They pulled away from each other. Jack raised a hand, touched Daniel's face, traced his cheek bone. “Whatever happens...”

They did it again. “Okay,” Daniel murmured.

“Don't leave.” Jack buried his fingers in Daniel's hair and pulled him close until their foreheads touched.

“I won't.” They kissed once more, inserting tongues this time. Not so gentle anymore. Their breaths hitched. Jackson pulled back first. “We need to stop.”

Jack knew they had to. He forced his body to follow his brain. “Don't die,” he growled before he let go.

“I'll try not to.” A twitch of lips, the arch of eyebrows. “Poured all your fucking love into me?”

“Something like that, yeah.”

“That's touching.”

“Sorry. I'm not the linguist around here,” Jack muttered and took a step back to get his head straight again. “You take the bed, I'll take the couch.”

It might not mean anything without the context but for me this scene was a turning point in a hell of a long journey and the start of finally bringing together what belongs together, so for me writing this was a mile stone.

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
My Stargate Odyssey (virtual season 11) story „That which we try to forget“ - for a lot of difficult reasons.

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
A Place to Heal - it was probably also the hardest one in some ways

11. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
An obsession. And right now I miss it so much because the words have taken a hike. It‘s like not being able to breathe.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

I‘m not big in writing tags or aftermaths, but I am dealing with episodes like ‘Scorched Earth‘, ‘Abyss‘ and the whole ‘Daniel dies (again)‘ scenario a lot.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Show, don’t tell, write what you want to read, Research (!!!)

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Write what you think your reader wants to read (seriously!)

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
The Road to Follow (because it kind of fixes Continuum in a weird way)

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?
Jack/Daniel

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Start to finish, I can‘t write out of order, it disturbs my writing flow...

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

No, not really

19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
Not a living one - well probably RDA and MS are my muses sometimes... that sounds scary. Ok, Jack and Daniel are my muses... that sound equally as scary. But they TALK to me.

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.
Coffee, couch, laptop, soft music

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Too many times to count.

22. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style.
Draws a blank... sorry

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
Probably “Reunion” - known as the ‘Ashen’ fic among some people - the only Little Daniel story I wrote for a fanzine. It’s a bit rough in places and would need a workover, but it’s never been one of my favorites soooo... :)

24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
no

25. What do you look for in a beta?
Honesty above anything else

26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
I ask what kind of fb they want: proofreading, cheerleading, or story critique. I like betaing because it has helped me with my own English as well.

27. How do you feel about collaborations?

Sometimes difficult, but sometimes a lot of fun - depends on the play-partner

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Iiiionly/Tanis/MeLadyinwaiting - because no matter in what fandom she writes she always takes mon a vivid, wonderful journey with her storytelling and her incredible way of words.

Pepe - she was my first slash author and to this day I adore and worship her work and go back to re-read her stuff and I miss her writing terribly.

Anise - because the Jackson Diaries just ROCK.

And
jdjunkie because she always 'gets' them the way I see them.

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
It‘s difficult to play in another author‘s sandbox, I‘d be too terrified to not get it ‚right‘. But there are certain WIPs out there I would love to finish if I could.

30. Do you accept prompts?
I‘m bad with prompts, so... mostly not.

31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
Canon-compliant, but there are exceptions - which I‘ll point out in notes. And not in AU of course.

32. How do you feel about smut?
Bring it on :) But as with almost anything, I need to be in the mood for it.

33. How do you feel about crack?
When I‘m in the mood, but I can‘t write it.

34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?
It depends on a lot of things to decide if I‘d read it. But I need to be warned about it.

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?
No... well, wait, I killed Ba‘al. But it was extremely painful to do that because I love him. I am tempted to kill Mitchell and MacKay all the time, but I‘m just not good at killing people off for real (in fic). I could not do that to Daniel :) :)

36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?
AO3

37. Talk about your current WiPs.
The sad truth is I don‘t have any. Not even a single one.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.
Once someone told me he wanted to read/show my story to a parent group for traumatized children who were doing horse therapy because my story dealt with a traumatized (Little) Daniel finding back to the outside world through bonding with a horse. That moved me deeply.

39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
I believe that you can learn something even from rude reviews. What I don‘t like are reviewer who diss my fic for things that are really a matter of preference - if you don‘t like Jack eating bananas because you hate bananas - that‘s not my problem... :p If you don‘t like the pairing - don‘t read because the pairing is established in my header/zero post, there‘s no secret about it. What I really hate are people who feel the need to bad-talk my stories without ever having read them. That happened and while I can dislike/hate a genre of stories or a certain kind of stories, I still can‘t judge over a particular fic/author without reading it.

40. Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).
None comes to mind.
