And I continue to put off writing my paper...

So here I am, putting off finishing my ENGL 300 term paper, which is about livejournals, ironically enough. Today was the last day of class (hooray!) so tomorrow is a reading day and friday is the first day of finals (boo). To further distract me from my studies, Aris made me a burn of a game I've always wanted to play, Persona 2. It's actually the ( Read more... )

I never really thought about this before, but it's a lot of fun to see the way you react to RPGs you like. Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, and now Persona 2:2 - it's just neat the way you throw yourself into them and stuff. I don't think I can really explain it.

you have a point about PS1 graphics. That is a real problem with the speed of game development these days. You have an AWESOME game with AWESOME graphics like FFX or Onimusha or some of the older Resident Evils and you remember these AWESOME experiences and you're like "Dude that game was AWESOME" and then you go back and you're suddenly: "Oh. Well. It WAS awesome. You know, for its time." And you feel kind of disappointed, which you totally shouldn't, but you can't help it, because things have progressed so far so quickly.

Totally agreed. Although, the new Zelda is cool because the graphics seem dated (they use cel shading) and they're really simplistic and bright and stuff (looks like N64 graphics but cleaner), but they really grow on you. That style is getting more popular now, so maybe the next trend will be away from flashy graphics like FFX style.

Oh, for your next gaming experience you might check out Dark Cloud 2. It's more like Kingdom Hearts and I hear it's pretty good (haven't bought it myself... neither the money nor the time for yet another game obsession...)

For me, graphics aren't really an issue, unless they're nausea-inducing or ASCII-based. They very rarely bother me. Probably because I'm not very visual. It hadn't even occurred to me to think of Persona 2 as outdated graphically - quite the opposite, actually. The graphics strike me as impressive for the PS1.

What can mess up a videogame experience for me, though, is interface. I played Lufia 2 before playing Lufia, because I had access to it first, and it was a really great game. But then when I went to play Lufia, although its inferior graphics didn't cause any problems, its inferior interface did, and I couldn't get through it.

So the news that Lufia 4 (I think it's four. The GBA one) has come out prompted me to run out and buy Lufia 3 (the GBC one) to play it first, so that I don't run afoul of the same problem, and so that I can enjoy both. And actually it just arrived, so I think I'm gonna go play that for hours and hours.
