If you come across this journal and want to be added, please comment to this message or any message that you can see. Otherwise, if you just add me, I'll just assume you're selling something :)

As of 22 March, 2010, I am finished with the coursework for the MBA! Graduation, here I come. (5/24/2010). Edit: so now I've graduated. New job. wee.

The Only Time We Have is Now
Before my grandmother's death, before she lost her sense of self, she told me that she never expected her life to turn out the way that it had. She was in bed in the nursing home, and she painted in excruciating detail the wonderful things that she and my grandfather had planned to do once they retired. But instead, Alzheimer's claimed my grandfather and their life savings. She never lost her spirit as her dreams of reading and vacationing faded away. Never did I hear sadness in her voice until that one day at the nursing home. The next time I saw her, dementia had claimed her too, and she thought the nursing home was a bus stop and she had no idea who I was, but she tried to find me coffee.

Her life has only confirmed for me that the only time we have is now. I tell this story to everyone. It doesn't mean to live recklessly. It means to live consciously. The only time we have is now.

Basics about me
Here are the basics. I was born on the leading edge of Generation X... At first, turning 40 (and more!) is something that just kind of happens to you, but eventually, you become it. It's really hard to find yourself judged by everyone else just because of that number. Stop pulling back in surprise when you find out! It's not a disease. Stop judging. You'll be there (here) soon yourself.

I'm kind of a late bloomer.

I have a regular vinyasa (flow) yoga practice (5x week). My nemesis is headstand, but someday I will get it. I am slowly learning to surf. I bike everywhere I can. I have a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from UCLA. That means I'm a Librarian, as well.

I love live music, especially anything that is '90s alternative, or grew out of '90s alternative. I love R.E.M, and have lately become a big fan of Death Cab for Cutie and Nada Surf.

I am now eating vegetarian. No meat. Well, I still eat crabs (and um, carbs :). I'm a Maryland girl, after all.

I am a black & white film photographer. I process my own photos in a darkroom at the Smithsonian. Most aren't posted here due to my lack of digital conversion tools (i.e., a scanner).

Why LJ?
I use LJ as a journal, not a blog. I'm fairly private so most entries are protected. Still, half the time you won't know why I bothered to write much less protect an entry :) I tend to write bits about yoga, goals, home maintenance issues, relationships, and A LOT of To-do lists...I avoid writing about work as much as possible, though. I try to be funny (really, I do!), but well, you be the judge. :)

some days are much more entertaining than others.

The La's, "Timeless Melody":

the melody always finds me
whenever the thought reminds me
breaking a chain inside my head
the melody chord unwinds me
the rhythm of life unties me
brushing the hands of time away

if you look in your mind
do you know what you will find
open your mind...

even the words they fail me
oh look what it's doing to me
i never say what i want to say
it's only a word believe me
if only the world could see me
i promise i'd send the word away

if you look with your eyes
do you know what you will find
open your mind
