Someone reminded me that I haven't posted in a bit. Sorry. Things are crazy at work (per usual). Here, have the idea of something I can't play with yet, but it was good enough for a 300 word contest

I love it. The build tension powerfully and the use of repetition is really effective. The images are also very vivid, believable as a child's traumatic memories, but with language that also makes this character's origin story into their own personal myth. I know you'll do something awesome with this one day. :)
