i think you would enjoy my thesis. maybe when i'm done with my statement i'll send both to you to read over... yes? i pretty much talk about how the immediacy of visual stimuli fosters these racist/sexist/etc. sentiments at a quicker rate than ever before, and use examples from creative literature, scholarship, and contemporary art to contextualize this argument. i think it does an ok job at highlighting problems of visual culture within our society, especially when dealing with theoretical instances of 'the other'. a book you may want to pick up is 'the book of lamentations', which beautifully describes these sort of attitudes.
in college, my minor was sociocultural anthropology and i have always been interested in the power of the ethnocentric lens, the 'us' and 'them' that continues to be redefined and reconstructed to serve as powerful propaganda.
