DURARARA!! DVD Vol.8 Gaiden: Izaya and Aoba.

Sep 30, 2010 19:41

This is the last part of the gaiden that came with DVD Vol.8. I'll do it in its entirety later when I find the time.

Somewhere in Tokyo, a street in a residence area

By the time the "boy" got home from middle school, the short hand of the clock was not yet pointing perpendicularly downward. It was going to take a short while before the sun was going to set.

"Bye! See you tomorrow!"

Bathed in the scarlet sunlight the boy waved goodbye to his classmates, smiling.

The boy stepped into the apartment building and pressed the button on the elevator.

He was wearing the uniform of a renowned private middle school. The boy eyed the screen of his own cell phone and was apparently busy doing something with it as he walked towards his own home.

As he stood in front of the entrance door - the boy stopped involuntarily in his tracks, frowning.

There were voices in some sort of conversation coming from inside the apartment.

One of those was his mother's voice.

The other was a young male's voice he had never heard before.

"……"

The boy had planned to let his mother know that he was home, switch to a different schoolbag and go to the cram school. It was simple, everyday routine. Whether his mother was receiving a guest shouldn't make a difference.

Yet for a moment the boy still hesitated to open the door. The young man's voice had given him a distasteful feeling in his bones.

But he had no reason to just remain standing there forever. The boy opened the door.

"……I'm back."

"Goodness, welcome back! See? Orihara-sensei at the cram school's come to visit!"

Upon hearing his mother's words the boy instantly understood everything.

"How can you have forgotten your student ID at the cram school? He had to come all the way to give it back!"

"Nah, nah, Ma'am, I was on my way to work anyway so I figured it wouldn't harm to visit and give the student ID back from yesterday."

His mother handed him the student ID. On it he found his face, his photo and his real personal information.

But the boy knew that this was not his student ID.

His own student ID was always kept in the schoolbag he used for his middle school, which he had never even taken with him to the cram school.

But more importantly than that - the man sitting at the dining room table sipping tea was a complete stranger to him. Of course, there was no teacher named Orihara at the cram school he went to.

But the boy wasn't planning on telling his mother that and causing a major commotion in his home. Neither was he going to call the police. In fact, he had decided that calling the police was out of the question as soon as he heard the name "Orihara".

Concealing perfectly the turmoil in his chest, the boy smiled light-heartedly and addressed the man by his first name, which the man hadn't mentioned to anyone in this home:

"Thank you so much! Izaya-sensei!"

Izaya returned the smile and nodded as he heard the boy call out his name.

"So, shall we head to the cram school together?"

♂♀

They dropped their smiles as soon as they stepped into the elevator.

"I don't suppose we've met before?"

"No, I figure not. But chances are that we've talked online under fake names."

Izaya replied. A smile appeared at only the corners of his mouth as he did the first thing: he praised the boy.

"But still, you are something. I never expected there to be a middle school kid among 'them'. Maybe that's one of the things networks like Dollars allow you to do. I don't think 'they' would ever have expected that the one who gave them so much advice online was a mere middle school kid. I myself, for one, have never in my wildest imagination expected that you would have somehow gotten my personal information."

"……I never expected that you would have tracked me down either."

The middle schooler's tone sounded like an adult's.

The door of the elevator opened, allowing the setting sun to cast a mysterious glow between the duo.

"But my, your face didn't change in the slightest even when a man you'd never seen before was lying to your mother pretending to be your teacher at the cram school. That was something, that was. You knew that you would have to talk to me first. It would have been more dangerous to you than it would have been to me if you simply called the police not knowing exactly how much I knew."

"……"

Izaya continued to talk as the boy remained silent.

"But you regret it now, don't you? You look like you're pretty mad."

"You do too."

As he heard the boy mutter with a face devoid of expression, Izaya kept the smile plastered only to the corners of his mouth and turned his eyes to the boy right next to him with mixed distaste and curiosity.

"I knew it at first glance. You are my kind. Even though I love all humans, you have to admit that likes do still repel each other. But I already know a person who makes me madder than you can ever make me. Next to him even you look like an interesting and humanly human being. That is why I can stand here and talk to you with a cool head."

"Are you just trying to scare me with all that talk?"

Seeing that the boy had already dropped his honorific speech, Izaya shrugged airily.

"Looks like you have reasons for hating me other than that likes repel each other."

"More or less. I looked into some stuff yesterday. To be honest, I wish you could just die already."

The boy muttered, not bothering to conceal his disgust. Izaya finally let his smile reach the corners of his eyes -

"I had come here with the intention of making you one of my pawns……but I changed my idea. I feel like it's better that we remain rivals. I have no idea what you're after sticking your head in that business between Shishizaki-sempai and 'them', but I'm interested in what you're doing."

After that, Izaya continued to speak as if to an equal to the middle school boy right next to him:

"I won't suggest that we join forces. But let us use each other to our heart's content, shall we?"

"I like using others, but I hate to be used."

"You have to love humans more. That way maybe one day you'll be able to meet someone whom you would be dying to be used by. I haven't met such a person yet, but since I'm in love with all humankind I believe I can survive on my masochist's pleasure alone even if I'm used."

"……I found it. One of the things that make us different."

The boy stared at Izaya and said as if he wanted the words out of his mouth as soon as possible.

"I hate humans. You're probably going to be the human I hate the most."

"Hahah. The one I hate the most happens to be not even human. More like a monster."

Speaking as if in riddles, Izaya turned his eyes towards the boy walking next to him.

"I'm going to introduce myself again. I'm Izaya. Orihara Izaya."

As he heard Izaya speak, the boy turned his gaze, loathing as ever, towards Izaya and returned his smile. Flatly, he muttered only his name.

"……Kuronuma Aoba."
