This journal is currently a place for anni_fiesta 's translations of Durarara!! (デュラララ!!) and Etsusa Bridge(越佐大橋), Japanese light novel series by Narita Ryohgo.
Whoot! Index is back! Can I ask (with a big please) for a quick link to the name table you were writing and editing? It's just so it might be easier to find for those of us that are interested in using it. That and I'm helping someone with their fanfic so I was hoping to fix her mistakes in the name calling thing. Please and thank you if you could!
Oh don't worry about it! I should be the one apologising since I'm bothering you...well it's this: "I'm currently in the middle of translating chapter 9 of book one. And I seemed to have encountered a little problem. You see, if you look at the first line of page 234 where Shinra says something, it doesn't seem to correspond to the Chinese translation of: “哈哈,不是有句俗话叫王八配绿豆吗?” well it probably means the same thing right, but it's kinda hard to phrase this in English...so is it OK if you help me translate the first two lines of that page from Japanese?? OMG I'm really sorry about bothering you like this! Take your time with it, and don't worry, I'll credit you!! Thanks so much." Once again I apologise for being a nuisance :S
Yeah...the original Japanese means "To each his own.", and it's indeed hard to translate what Celty says after that. I would go with a literal translation and a translation note, say "The worm won't mind even if the knotweed is bitter." Personally I prefer literal rather than idiomatic translations of the idioms Shinra uses simply because they're lovelier :)
