My Only Hurricane Katrina Post

Sep 04, 2005 15:08

This is mainly for jencarson, kdotp, and saintangelsin, however I think many of the rest of you may find it interesting.

I received an email from the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Young Adult Listserve with information about Katrina Relief. I'll post an excerpt below.

I went to the ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans back in 1997. This whole week all I can think about is how I had been there, worshiping with 10,000+ in the Superdome (every night)...and how NOW there are people dying, raped, and murdered there. It's hard to grasp.

Oh shit I forgot to add you in with our Lutheran gang!

I know LSM had gone to New Orleans a couple of years ago and so many people have told me how sad they are about everything. It is just so unimaginable, and completely out of control.

I will likely end up doing more work down there through Habitat and the ELCA in the future than giving money. Money is great for now, but in the long term it will be lots of personal involvement for me.

The LCMS youth gathering was in NO in '91. Nate went and my sister went and they had a great time. (Mine was in San Antonio. I don't think it was nearly as fun as the NO one, from what I heard.)

I donated $50 through the LCMS World Relief fund, earmarked for Hurrican Katrina. I wish I could do more.
