I think it's sad when people leave LJ and start to write at new places ( Read more... )

It IS getting slower, but I will always be here as my primary place. I do stuff on Facebook, I keep up with my kids, my nieces and nephew and another friend or two that are not on LJ and play a word game, but this is my home here.

I do understand that Facebook is a good thing to keep up with family and some friends,
and also to get in contact with friends you've lost contact with.
I'm there reading some of the things people write, but not all.
It's like people think, never is better.
A new cool thing.
But to me it really isn't in this case.
LJ is exelent to write things you feel for
and sometimes need too also.
To get support and friendships too.

I am with you. I tried Twitter but it is not for me. I have Facebook and check there maybe once or twice per week but you cannot write the same in Facebook as you do in LJ. I have a Dreamwidth account just in case something bad happens to LJ but I have no intention of leaving. I have a permanent account at LJ and will stay here for as long as I can. It seems a little slow sometimes but not so bad, Facebook is a lot slower with all the crap they are constantly throwing at you.

I don't even know what Twitter is. I suppose it's like texting, only directly to the Internet, so I suppose it costs money to do it, which is why I'm not going to do it.

But I also don't need it for the things you call small nonsense talk. I use LJ to set some thoughts down about the things that are important in my life now, and that takes more than phone texting. And it helps me keep in touch with people I've become friends with.

I like that I can take time to post something substantial in LJ. That's what a journal is for; the musings over events in a person's life; not just small talk.

I don't use Facebook because too many family members are on it, and I like having a little more freedom to say what I really feel in LJ. I'm not going to go anywhere else.

Twitter's free - you can post and read messages through their website, or using a variety of free applications for the Mac/PC/iPhone etc. You can post to it by text message too, if you like, but I've only done that a couple of times - that sometimes costs money, depending on which network you use, but you don't have to use that if you don't want.

One of my LJ (and RL) friends uses something ('LoudTweet' I think?) which gathers each day's Twitter posts and posts them on LJ as well, which seems like a good setup.

I wrote in my own journal about not liking Twitter.

I think I have figured out just what it is that bothers me: the twitter posts do not allow me to comment (or at least it seems that way). The posts are just one-liners, sometimes in a code that I don't know and sometimes for people who are not me.

I agree with you - I much prefer a thought-out entry with the possibility of a conversation between the writer and the reader.

(Ironically, the post just after this one on my friends list is the very long twitter-log of someone who was watching ESC and twittering after nearly every performance. Might have been interesting if I had been a fellow-twitterer, commenting in real time, but to read it all at once the next day...not so much.)

I have Facebook, but I only check it once or twice a day. It's a good place to keep in touch with people and be able to contact them if you want to. But you're right--you can't write what you feel there. It's too public. I like the security of Livejournal. Sometimes I post pictures on Facebook thinking only my friends can see, and then someone I don't know will comment! I don't like that! I am friends with my mom, many family members, and people from my childhood church on Facebook.

I wish more people still stuck with Livejournal. A lot of people have left, and it makes me sad!
