Watch out!

Sep 26, 2008 16:07

I just had another little exchange with a relative.  I'd like to be able to type, "Well, at least it wasn't a forward," but I'm not sure I can count brainwashed ranting as intelligent debate.

It all started with the following forward from Old Cousin: Subject: PBS Poll on Sarah Palin - Takes 2 seconds!

Takes 2 seconds ....

Women with both family and career unqualified???  Whatever.  The expected
outcome of this vote is 80% saying Sarah Palin is unqualified - Let's prove
them wrong ! This is the easiest vote you will ever make. It takes literally
two seconds.   Let's turn this around!!!

PBS has a short video on Sarah Palin on their website.  Also included is a
poll that asks: Is Sarah Palin qualified to be VP?  I logged on a few
minutes ago and 37% percent had voted YES, 62% NO.

Let's turn this around..... You don't have to give your name or email
address in order to
 vote. It's very simple.

Here's the link:
http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

AFTER YOU VOTE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR LIST OF PEOPLE E, ASK THEM TO
VOTE AND THEN ASK THEM TO FORWARD IT ON TO THEIR E-MAIL LISTS.  LET'S SHOW
PBS WHAT REAL AMERICANS THINK!
I "replied all":  I already voted no yesterday.  I cannot consider anyone who names a child "Track" qualified for much of anything.  Love, A.

Seemed harmless enough.  C'mon, isn't "Track" a funny name?  Was I just supposed to let b.s. slide by again?  I thought it was okay, especially when I got an email back from Old Cousin, in his usual red text, I voted no also.  She wanted her childs name to rhyme with her nickname.  Cracked.

Now, don't get me started on how the text of the forward is CLEARLY pro-Palin, and yet Old Cousin shared that he also voted "no."  That's one of my issues about this whole thing: people forwarding me things that do not express their own personal beliefs.  But I digress.

Seconds later, I got this one, from another one of my mother's cousins, who, thanks to their vague email address and lack of signature, I'm not even sure who is:
I am a Life Member of the NRA (National Rifle Association).  Your friend Barack Obama voted to pass a law that no gun shop could be located within 5 miles of a school.  Basically telling legal gun owners to move out of cities or the right to operate a business selling guns outside the city limits.

He also conviently says  that hunters will be protected.  His ignorance of the second amendment is sameful.  The second amendment was created as a result of similar people like Barack Hussein Obama wanting guns out side the city limits.  Remember Concord Bridge?  The second amendment is NOT about hunting dear, or deer.  It is about the right to keep and bear arms as defined by the supreme court and firearms are to be used for protection by individuals.  His state of IL and the city of Chicago is one of the higest crime cities in the US and has the most offensive gun laws imaginable so that a home owner can protect themselves.    talking about names? how important is that? what does that have to do with ANY THING?  Pretty narrow minded talking about names.....Husessin?  How about Dudro
I won't even go into the poor spelling, particularly the misspelling of my last name.  I just sent the following reply:

As I am not responsible for my last name of DUTRO, I do not hold Obama responsible for a name his parents gave him, and I do not hold Track Palin accountable for his PARENTS naming him after a sport.

I think that people who don't want gun shops near schools might be approaching the situation from the viewpoint of not wanting mentally ill students to be able to purchase guns and then go back to their schools and shoot people (remember Columbine?).

I also believe that I do not want to receive any more political emails from ANYONE on this list, whether they be jokes or interesting facts or whatever, as I have no desire to argue with my family just because I disagree with them.  I am aware that that you think your way and I think my way.  Again, I would prefer not to be subjected to further emails.

Thank you kindly.
