Have you thought about seeing if there are any clinical trials taking place? I mean, you live in a big city and such trials tend to be pretty benign, pay pretty well, and take a minimum of time/effort. A couple years ago, a total of 10 days got me $3.5k.

i've thought about it, but i can't do any of the ones with neuroimaging because i am left-handed. and i can't do drug trials because i don't have a canadian healthcare card yet. alas! i used to do psych tests a lot though, but they pay not-as-well.
