I just found out something I 've wanted for a while has been reported in some cases as inducing suicide, and I found out that Cobain had one. That sucks. It is a "Dreamachine.” It was created by William Burroughs's friend Brion Gysin, (a dadaist ) I found out about it when researching Burroughs (Since he kicks ass and all)
A Dreamachine is a device that you look at with your eyes closed. Weird huh? Not really. The device emits light in a rapid fashion, like a strobe, but you are looking at it with your eyes closed. The light flashes on your closed eyes, releasing alpha chemicals, the same chemicals released while dreaming, in the brain. So you experience a dreamlike state. Not those crappy dreams where you are naked at school either, it is more of a psychedelic effect. Vivid colors, abstract images, kaleidoscope-style visions and sounds are what you experience. The great thing about it is that if you want to stop, all you do is open your eyes. I wanted one because I love my dreams, that is what my dreams are like and I would like to have them whenever I wanted. It sounded badass. Like have some badass music playing while using it. I derive a lot of inspiration form my dreams, so I thought this would boost my artistic creations. That is gay how it was linked to a string of suicides. Then again the suicides were in individuals that did drugs, and I do no drugs whatsoever. Hmmm. I don't know what about dreams makes me so interested in them. I guess since it is a sense of escape.
