At the end of the street was a forest that stretched for literally thousands of miles and the wind which rushed down the vallley in Summer came scented with pine and fir aromas. In the distance, at the north end of the valley, was a 25000 year old glacier which shone with a beautiful warm alpenglow. To the west was Diamond Head, a dormant volcano shaved sharp by ancient glaciers. And to the south was the massive Squamish Chief, a giant granite edifice, the second largest granite block in North America.
But that was a lifetime ago now.
There is no magic in my humble apartment this year. I am too tired and in no mood for such things. This too shall pass and I am content to have a bland secular Christmas this year.

No tiny bit of magic in your home now? No special dish or cup that makes anything in it taste better? No sweater that makes you feel warm and cared for just by putting it on? No chair or couch you head for when you want to read a book? No remote control for a tv or sound system (I think of remote controls as the closest thing we have today to magic wands)?
