Room 335 - Wednesday Morning (NFB)

Jan 25, 2006 07:39

Victor was up earlier than usual on a Wednesday. He sat at his desk, munching on some Honey Nut Cheerios, playing around on the internet, and planning.

Yesterday had gone well enough. He had gotten a copy of his room key, spent some time with Walter, done some research, gone to class, done some more research, then went to bed. Not too bad for the first day, he thought.

He hit the Back button on his browser for what seemed like the millionth time since the day before and sighed. He had spent hours wandering online, trying to find some reliable information on vampires, only to come up short each time. All that seemed to exist were sites dedicated to vampire movies or legends or fanfiction. (On the plus side, he now knew what "slash" was, but that didn't help.) He thought he had gotten lucky last night with a site that had actual pictures of vampires in action, until he saw that it actually belonged to a cult of wannabes who had gotten "fangs" installed by a dentist.

He sighed again and crunched down on a Cheerio. Maybe he was going about this the wrong way. Maybe he was even doing the wrong thing, getting himself involved like he was. But even though he felt nervous, he knew it was the only way. Walter was a fighter, a vampire hunter. What if evil vampires decided to swarm the school? Walter would be out there, kicking ass, but what would Victor be doing? Hiding in a closet? Huddled in a corner, praying to Jesus to spare him? He scoffed. He didn't want that! One thing he had learned in the church back home was that the Lord helped those who helped themelves. Plus, if he was going to ever become an X-Man, he couldn't be so...weak.

He leaned back in his chair and wondered what his mentor would've done. There's no way Jean-Paul would sit on the sidelines, he thought with a sad smile. He was always on the front line, protecting the people he cared about. That's how he died: a hero. Maybe what I'm about to do is risky...but I care about Walter, and I want to be right there on the front line, next to him. I want...I want to be equal..."

Victor sighed again, then closed the browser window. Maybe he needed a break from from his research right now. Some exercise would probably do him some good...
