Yes, this may have been written by Maya Angelou, and she writes about the Blacks' struggle and how she has managed to overcome it. Think about your own struggle, this should help you understand the words, and allow it to adapt to you. You still rise over everything, or you should. So do I ( Read more... )

this has always been one of my favorites, I adore her, always have.

I don't think about her writing to only be about the black struggle, but a woman's struggle, a persons struggle, everyone's struggle. Life is hard, and her words give motivation.

I think I have read about 80 percent of everything she has ever written, it is all amazing IMHO. I am such a fan girl *S*

Have you read her auto biographies? Her life is amazing!

Oh, I know it's not just about the black struggle, but some people would focus just on that. She's got different points in this, per stanza, and I like how she keeps saying "psh. I'm still going to overcome."

Same here. -grin.- I've loved her since seventh grade, when I read "I know why the Caged Bird Sings."

Yes! When I graduated, one of my interepreters gave me one of Maya Angelou's autobiographies, it was a wonderful read. I still have it.

"I know why the caged bird sings" Was my first, and I just read each one in order after that, they are amazing! To think of all the things she has done, and what she has lived through, and how she still is able to see hope in this world. I just love it.

Her poetry speaks to me, it is not self absorbed crap but something real! Poetry gets a bad rap because of all the posers out there.

I've gotta pick up the others in the order as well. Exactly, her hope is what gets to me, she hasn't really let it jade her -- from what we can see.

I agree.
