I did it. I abstained from alcohol for an entire month, yet it seemed like a year. I also gave it up for Lent, so I have a while to go. But, I have been rethinking the whole Lent thing. The main reason I decided to give up alcohol for Lent was to reinforce my motive of the month long absence of alcohol. Now that I completed my month, I think I ( Read more... )

Well Ken, last night ou made me rethink my decision once again. I really had no idea what to choose, alcohol, or no alcohol. When I get in these situations, I refer to my "Messiah's Handbook" for an answer. It is a book compiled of all of Richard Bach's inspirational advice. I have used this on many occassions, but never once found an answer relating to my question.

So last night, I closed my eyes and asked, "Am I making the right decision to start drinking again?" With my eyes closed, I opened to a random page and read...

"Avoid problems and you'll never be the one who overcame them."

My decision is made.

Lent... anonymous February 28 2005, 01:15:06 UTC
Hey bud, its Joe, I thought I'd check out the journal and see what's new. I saw you on Friday at Winstons and you had a few drinks, probably more than I would've liked you to have, but I'm not your mother, and you are a man, so you must make decisions as a man. Just know that regardless of whether or not you decide to keep drinking, I am always in your corner. I got ya B-A-C-K each and every day, remember that. Although I'm not Catholic, I understand the meaning of Lent. The thing that disappoints me the most is I think you kind of talked yourself out of your Lent Committment. We sacrifice for Lent to remind us of how Christ sacrificed for us, the Ultimate Sacrifice. Kyle, I believe that if you look inside, you will understand what I mean when I say that you talked your way out of it. Remember, there's nothing wrong with going out and having a couple of drinks...(preferably 3 max) but its when you start crossing that threshold that it really becomes a problem. Take care bud, I love you ( ... )

Thanks man. I never really thought of it like that, and I myself talked myself out of it saying I wasn't Catholic, but I definitely see where you're coming from. I know that I screwed up, and I'm gonna make amends for it by continuing my Lent promise, even though I already broke it. By the way, good metaphor.
