Fannish Excitement

Jan 28, 2013 21:33

I haven't posted forever and ever, and so much has gone on that if I don't give myself a clean slate, I'll never post again, and that would be terrible!  (Uh, nice sentence, Emily).

So I'm stealing this meme from the lovely osprey_archer because it looks like all kinds of fun.  Also because babbling on about fandoms is pretty much all I've been doing recently ( Read more... )

Center Stage! ;-) Kind of limited fandom, I know...

HAHAHA, is there a Fandom for Center Stage? I shall try, but there might be some I can't answer!

1. my favourite character and how i FEEEEL about them: Cooper! He's snarky, he's an asshole, he's totally self-absorbed but dedicated. HOW CAN I NOT LOVE HIM? Ugh, and he has chemistry with everyone, and he KNOWS it so he uses it against them. Love it.
2. the character i never expected to love this much: Charlie <3<3<3 Though admittedly following Sascha's career has helped with that. But I love him for the opposite of all the reasons I love Cooper ( ... )

hahaha, Sergei/Mirror made me laugh a lot!

Also Sergei/old lady!

Oh gosh, Dance Academy/Center Stage would be the best thing ever!

And OMG, I freaking hate that cut too! I comment to myself on it every time I watch!

I don't know whether to ship Jody/Eva or Eva/Maureen now! I guess I'll stick with Sergei/mirror!

LOL I cracked myself up when I thought of it, so I'm glad you thought it was funny too! :D

Ugh, THOSE SHOES. WHY COULDN'T THEY FIX IT POST-PRODUCTION? It absolutely is horrible.

Eh, give in, ship the OT3. ;)

I love how tragic Javert is. He's not a bad guy and in his head, he's trying to bring a bad guy to justice. Of course his view of right and wrong is terribly narrow and black and white. And I just love (in the musical) that the music for his and Valjean's life changing revelations is the same. Only Valjean, when he realizes he's become something he doesn't recognize, finds a way to change and move on. But Javert, when he hits that same point, when he realizes what he's done, just can't change.

And in the movie, when he pinned the medal on Gavroche? Oh God, that was heartbreaking.

I didn't like the movie Thenardiers as much as I do the play ones. I mean as much as you can like such horrible people.

FMA!

1. My favourite character and how i FEEEEL about them: Sigh. SO unoriginal, but EDWARD. I love that boy so much. I knew I'd like him the first time I saw him on the page because 'kids taking on adult roles' is one of my set in stone story kinks, but he's so much more than that. I love that he's a big bundle of contradictions under than ludicrous red coat. He's more morally gray than a hero "ought to be." He'll use almost any means to get to his ultimate aims, but I love how he's reluctant every time when he runs up against an internal limit. "What are all these people who want something from me and why can't I refuse to give it to them?" He becomes the 'people's alchemist' nearly against his will, and he'll never stop grumbling about it. He's a stubborn ass - like he couldn't have avoided Winry's wrench smacks nearly anytime he wanted to, but he's too stubborn to move (and maybe he likes to give the few people he loves some satisfaction). I love his utter devotion to Al (another story kink, that) - basically he's built ( ... )

Sigh. Apparently this was two comments' worth anyway.

10. The one thing i really really really really wish would happen (or had happened) in canon is: This is more me than the canon, but I kind of wish I'd waited to read the second half of the manga until it was completed because I got seriously stuck during the Briggs chapters. I think it works better as a full arc than as a serial.
11. A random au idea i'd love to see in fic (and plan to write? wish someone else would write?): I'd love to see a more bittersweet end to the manga. I love that everyone pretty much got their happy ending, but...
12: My personal headcanon includes: So much that if I typed it all out after my babble about Ed, I'd need a new comment. How about - I can't accept the fandom's insistence that Roy would have never slept with any of Mme Christmas' girls.
13: My deep, dark fandom secret is: I have such a soft spot for the first anime & the movie. It's incredibly cracked out, but I love it.
and because thirteen could be an unlucky number to end on...
14: I ( ... )

My kindle is named "Scieska" (for all the cataloging features) so I must have gotten that transliteration from anywhere.

Roy/Hughes. I pondered it, but I couldn't figure out how it'd work. Then I read your fics. :DI said this on twitter, but I couldn't figure it out until I WROTE those fics. Oddly, it took me a lot longer to come to Roy/Riza than Roy/Hughes, though once I did (basically at the gun standoff in vol. 23 of the manga) I was a goner ( ... )

The only one I acknowledge! (Well, that includes Legend of Korra clearly)

1. My favourite character and how i FEEEEL about them: Katara! *draws all kinds of little hearts around her* She's just *hands*. She's motherly AND badass. She will take care of you while scolding you for being stupid without being a complete nag. But she IS a complete nag and everyone (including her) acknowledges it. I just adore how she's allowed to fill all these different roles without ever being stereotyped into one. Also? Hair loopies.
2. The character i never expected to love this much: It has to be Zuko here, right? But also Suki & Asami
3. The character everyone else loves that i don't: Mako? *punch*
4. The character i love that no one else does: Azula. I adore her and feel sorry for her. She's so messed up, and she never really gets the mentoring that Zuko gets or any chance for redemption. Her father brushes her aside the minute Zuko returns. Poor girl.
5. My absolute most favourite pairing EVER: Katara/Zuko (I KNOW)
6. The immensely ( ... )

Mako definitely needs a good slap. I was *so* excited about the promise in the first three eps of Korra and then a little :/ when the love triangle started swallowing everything.

Oh! Speaking of Azula getting a redemption arc...

I don't know if you've been following the Avatar comics by Gene Yang and Gurihiru (working with Bryke, so they're fully in canon) that Dark Horse has been putting out, but they're about to start on their second mini-series which will finally deal with what happened to Lady Ursa. And apparently a lot of it will include Azula being both her old self and semi-helpful, so there may be hope yet that she gets a better ending.

Preview pages!

I'm right there with you wrt Korra. I was pretty disappointed in the first season, but I hope they maybe get over that. Just because the characters are teens doesn't mean they have to be in loooooooove, guys!

Okay, that is SO EXCITING. I've actually bought the TPBs of the Avatar comics for the library but then I haven't read them. Clearly I must fix this! And I'm making a note of April to add that to my comics read list. Because I need more or something...

OH this is totally off-topic, but I have NO IDEA how I haven't asked you before? I know you've always been pretty aware of good manga series - might you at some point rec some to me to have at the library for my kids? I have a pretty big graphic novels budget that I feel like is going to waste (srsly, how many Star Wars comics do we need?), and I'm not terribly sure what to start with that's a) not overly graphic/violent and b) is good/popular/not 100 volumes long.

I see you there getting back at me for the tiny fandom question! ;)

1. My favourite character and how i FEEEEL about them: Julie. Julie Julie Julie. It's not just that I tend to adore spy characters (which I do) but she is pretty much everything I would love to be (Yeah, that says something about me). Err, except the crappy direction sense part. I absolutely adore Maddie, but Julie who never gave up and never gave a single bit of information away. Who can slip into any persona she wants and convince anyone of anything. Her literary allusions and Kiss Me Hardy and yeah. Wow. All the feels. All of them.
2. The character i never expected to love this much: Julie. I started out really mad at her (see above re: adoring spy characters)
3. The character everyone else loves that i don't: Anna Engel. Not that everyone loves her, but I've seen a bit of fannish love, and while I can admire her, I just - no. Sorry, Anna.
4. The character i love that no one else does: Dymphna. I don't know if anyone hates her, but I love her way more ( ... )
