fast taggers anonymous July 8 2011, 20:36:51 UTC
Who are they?

While I'm okay with slow-moving threads, it gets a little dull when every single thread I'm in moves at a crawl. I'd like to seek out more fast players so I can try to have at least one or two faster-paced threads per dayshift. Who should I be hitting up on plot posts?

Might help to define what you mean by "fast". Some people have different standards on that front.

It's a pretty tough thing to define, but I guess... things like not dropping threads (especially not at the beginning), often replying within an hour or two (if online), replying once a day or more...

This isn't set in stone, since everyone has busy periods, but just in general.

I find that posting speed isn't just about players, but characters. Players with multiple characters tend to favor their newest ones (they're shiny!) and new players tend to be eager, so for quick threading, try those? Bonus: threading with new characters means you're more likely to develop lasting CR, and threading with new players makes them feel more welcome.

Other thing that's probably obvious: be quick yourself! My posting speed is influenced by the speed of the person I'm tagging. If they don't reply for two days, I figure they're busy and I don't feel guilty waiting a day or two to tag back if I have other things to take care of, but if they reply in a few hours, I'm more likely to reply as soon as I get a chance.

You just defined habits I have that I couldn't even really define. Thanks, anon!

I have been playing with new characters, but I'll keep that in mind and keep hitting them up in hopes that some will lead to long-term CR. I have had some good experiences with this, too, just not as many recently.

And yeah, I'm a pretty fast tagger myself; that's the main reason I really want to play with other fast taggers more often. I wouldn't expect anything from others that I wouldn't expect from myself.

I do the same thing too sometimes, where if someone keeps me waiting for days and I finally get the tag, I'll be more inclined to put off replying than if they replied within the day. Sometimes I even worry I intimidate or annoy people by replying within 20 minutes to a tag that took someone 3+ days to get out to me.

It also depends on whether it's a backthread or not for me. If it's a current shift thread, I'm more inclined to get at least one response out per day, usually more if the other person is tagging faster. If it's a backthread, I tend to let tags slide a little more, and don't mind waiting an extra day or two to get back to them, especially if I have a bunch of other backthreads already. This is mainly so I can make sure I get the bulk of a thread done within the shift it's supposed to be in, but I still feel kind of bad that I have this habit even so.

I like to think I'm fast, personally, but I will admit, it can vary a lot depending on how the thread is going. If nothing interesting is happening/the person I'm playing with isn't giving me much, the tag is probably going to fall to the bottom of the pile. Once a day is a bare minimum for me, though.

I feel you on getting bored with slow threads. Everything I do lately seems to slow to molasses.

Is this game still slowly dying off?

Dying off in what way?

Yes, we did lose a lot of players in the past year, but some of them have returned already.

That and the players left have still been pretty steady. We haven't been getting any slower since the last big drop wave. We pretty much just plateaued off into a new, slower pace.
