Crazy Crack Fandoms and Why I'm Not A Nazi

 Why are fandoms crazy?

And let me get this straight, I don't mean screaming-when the actors are breathing the same air, buying ten billion different types of action figures, I'm-going-to-live-life-as-a-klingon/padawon/pony crazy.  This kind of crazy I view as kind of normal, which probably says something about the company I keep, but whatever.

I ( Read more... )

kirk/spock, let it all go, rant, star trek, not writing, not so anon, nutrek, tos

Urgh that's so horrible! Sorry you have to deal with such a stupid ship war that ended with the person calling you racist--even when you said you like Uhura/Scotty.

Urgh.

I like S/U personally but I can see why people might not obviously.

Yeah! I mean, I see where liking it comes from, I really do. But Kirk/Spock was my first OTP, Uhura/Scotty my second, and Kirk/Spock again at fifth OTP. (-_-' my life is one giant fandom, sometimes)

I really have no problems with ships. I just hate it when people try to push them on other people through an offensive defense. Ships are like religions in that way. o_O

yeah, completely agree. who you want to see in a relationship with another character is just so subjective and down to what you think 'feels' right. no one makes a list of logical arguments and then decides rationally who they will ship, so making long lists of arguments to try and convince others is pointless anyway, even more so when they are damned offensive.

Definitely. Ah well. At least most of Star Trek fandom is chill like you folk. Other fandoms are scarier.

SOrry you had to go through that crap. The person was obviously a loon. I mean no disrespect to the S/U shippers... however I am more a fan of TOS the AOS and IF I were to put Spock with female it would be Chapel. Mainly because Uhura had expressed her... mmmmm... disdain for Spock's lack of emotion early on (When he wouldn't compliment her I believe.) Where Chapel (Up until the movies) pretty much followed Spock around like a love sick puppy. So that pairing makes sense. I just can't see Uhura getting what she needs in a relationship with Spock (or Kirk) and vice versa ( ... )

Ahaha, I actually rewrote her 'test' so that it would 'prove' whether or not you are a homophobe. I added in the end that I didn't mean this as something for real, I just wanted to show the other side by changing a few words and showing how it could be manipulated easily to support pairings.

Yeah, depending on who you ask - I am not white. Or I am. Is it possible that I'm white and my sister's not? Because we're what most would call 'mutts.' o_O She said it didn't matter, though, because I was treated with white privilege based on the fact that I could pass for Russian and was therefor worthless.

Scotty and Uhura are a fantastic couple. Theirs is one of those loves where I can read any fanfiction I happen to stumble across and it seems to always be good. Possibly because only good writers ever think to write it or something, or maybe they're just magical. I don't know. XD But it makes me squee.

Haha, thanks. :-D

Man. Sometimes I just don't get fandoms. I love the things they surround, and I love many of the individuals within them, but then it's still possible to be suddenly surrounded by a bunch of fundementalists yelling "Will you or will you not support the fucking of character A by character B!" O_O

And then most are just in the center of that going "Um... ooooookaaaaaay..."

Bitches, man. The reasons I personally don't like Spock with Uhura are the same reasons I don't like Kirk with McCoy. I JUST DON'T. My only Star Trek pairing is K/S, and that is that.
