First mission after college...get a job that gives me time to post.

Well regeneration has the ability to heal nervous system damage (proven by Arthur healing his paralysis by absorbing Adam's gift) and since the Shanti virus attacks the nervous system it would seem as if the virus is in continual attack mode on a person with regen. but the regen heals up the cell death that the virus is causing. So they are victims of the virus with no symptoms. Therefore unlike a normal person that would be incapacitated by the virus and stay isolated and not spread it around a lot, A regen person would walk around spreading it everywhere. Like that asshole that insists on coming to work with the first stages on flu...functions fine throughout the day and then finds out he gave the whole department flu.
Holy Fuck! I just read the "role in evolution" section on the wikipedia page for virus and I think the whole virus spurring mutation is plausible here. If we want to go all sci-fi logic...if the Shanti virus mutated from carrier to carrier it could spread genetic information. It could cause evolution to speed even faster, creating multiple abilities, accelerating an ability or changing the limitations of an ability. We've already scene how the same ability can vary from person to person. Some can control it or push it further then others. Sylar for example is known for taking abilities then using them better then the original person. And we know for fact an ability is easily manipulated. Claire's ability turns and she can't feel pain anymore. Sylar's turns and gives him a hunger. Ando is a power battery. Matt's father commented on how telepathy can "grow into so much more" and their is even an ability that alters other abilities (http://heroeswiki.com/Ability_augmentation) So it seems highly plausible that any person with or without abilities could benefit from the virus if it mutated from cell death of the nervous system to genetic spreader using the nervous system (the nervous system is the central element to using an ability or gaining one). Even aside from the Shanti Virus...another mutation virus could come about and effect in a similar was...who's to say that isn't want caused the increase in how many people have abilities in modern times versus the past (though increase in the ability population isn't concrete just assumed on my part based on show history)
As for Samuel, if his power didn't rely on others I'm not sure if he'd want others around. We were not entirely certain on his intentions by the finale. Whether his need to send a message to the public is founded on the image of group unity then that would be the answer. Like Magneto in X-Men...his power could effect the entire planet's magnetic fields on his own the few times it got accelerated to a major level. However as strong as Magneto is his message still is one of unity, a brotherhood of mutants, so while he could force a message on the world single-handedly he chooses to do so with help, to show how mutants can come together.
The treatment of the human public and the gov't and the international ignorance of the show is the one thing I cannot help but hate. It is entirely illogical for no one to know. In our reality the gov't keeps tabs on normal people, big brother's us to death...they would know...they would be keeping tabs on them. They might not do anything in the public eye but they would know. Our gov't is not feeble, nor is the gov't of other countries. They would be using these people to their advantage and insuring that anyone dangerous to the society or to the gov't was under their eyes and their thumb. The Company is another thing that upsets me. With an organization like that it would be an even easier target for the gov't to see. In reality the company would be run by the gov't or be under the watchful eye of the military and funded by the gov't. Humans don't have abilities but that doesn't make them stupid, ignorant or incapable of squashing any threat with shear numbers of people and technology. Think about other countries. In communist countries you get checked for everything...someone would know and tell long before Claire outed it to the media. They focus so much on the main characters and on America that they don't realize that in reality public awareness would be far closer to X-Men or Watchmen. But when you create public awareness it causes big issues with how to handle it. Example the constantly upgrading sentinals in X-Men and the public debates and international friction over the issue in both X-Men and Watchmen. A common cause wouldn't even need to be a virus or some big scare. Like HRG said, people can't handle things different from them. Fundamentalists and Racist would rally for their blood. And the simple fact that no one has come forward to help is mind boggling. With all those powers wouldn't someone want to be a public hero. You could stop natural disasters, feed the hungry, build things, save the environment. Someone's political and social concerns would either out the gifted as demons or come out as a savior. Not to mention there have been specials since Ancient China! They would be demons and gods then unaware of genetics...the only thing that could prevent a major leak on the "powers secret" for those thousands of years is if there was a sudden evolutionary burst increasing the gifted population in a short time within recent years. The virus excuse could come in handy here. But there is no excuse for dumbing down humans...We have superpower countries that have files on people for minuscule things. Also the whole arc with the Haitian's brother made me happy but pissed off. It was true to the fact that if you gave someone a power terrible things could happen. Give a Crip or a Blood a power and everyone would be told and the whole area would be terrorized and in control by him/them. But you would think someone with a higher military leaning like the Haitians brother would present that to the international media. Like Watchmen...the only thing that stops other countries from using their special people against each other is that the Doctor is a threat greater then any other gifted person. Anyway If this gets any longer It might crush someone.
