So. I have a few niggling concerns about tomorrow's episode.
I started thinking about this when I read
this article. Pertinent quotes include: But could this one mistake cost the lives of all humanity (or at least indirectly - one of the regular cast)? and Can The Doctor deliver on his promise “nobody dies today” or will we really lose a central character forever, right here, right now?
We know the Doctor is safe. Matt Smith isn't going anywhere for awhile, and anyway we've seen pictures of him filming the next few episodes. Karen has been seen in the same pictures, so we know Amy survives this. What I'm wondering now is... do we have any filming pictures that include Rory?
Spoiler addict that I am, I've been following the filming for awhile, and what I've seen seems to indicate that Rory isn't in at least the next two episodes. Either this means that Amy and the Doctor drop him back off at home for while and continue traveling, or that something tragic is about to happen.
Honestly, I'm not sure what I think will happen. I have a hard time believing they would kill off a major character so soon, and in the past predictions of death have turned out to be slightly less than advertised (i.e. Donna) and yet...
Worse, this might actually be the reason for including that "wave from the future" scene at the beginning of The Hungry Earth. We think Rory's safe, Amy is convinced everything turns out fine, because we've seen a glimpse of the future. Except the Doctor is always talking about how time is in flux, insisting that despite indications of a safe future, the present danger is very real. So far, we haven't seen any evidence of this claim, and continue to be confident of someone's survival because we know everything turns out alright. If Rory does end up dying, it would go a long way towards removing that confidence and adding suspense to the show.
Or, you know, I could just be paranoid and overthinking this. I hope that I am, because Rory is too awesome to lose so soon. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
