At the funeral, people talked right through the service, even when my 17-year-old cousin was standing up there beside gran's coffin, delivering the eulogy (the one I wrote, not the one that was re-written without my knowledge). People kept talking even though he was standing up there, struggling to compose himself as he tried not to cry ( Read more... )

Do you burn the incense for her or just in general?

We burnt the incense in general. You're supposed to wish for something, but I just bow three times, counting off the numbers 'cause I don't believe wishes come true.

That sucks, about the talking. Was thinking of you.

Your pictures that you've put up here are fantastic, those kids are adorable.

I find looking at pictures of people I knew as kids - their personalities are right there on their faces, long before they grow up and the rest of us figure it out, y'know what I mean? When I graduated from high school our year book had baby pictures next to grad pictures - the kids smiling huge in grad pictures were the ones smiling huge as kids, and the no-smile kids were consistent, too. That face is just exploding with personality, I'm sure it's going to be a joy for you having that kid around as he grows up. :)

when my grandma died, all her kids and grandkids got together for the funeral proceedings. a 3 day long wake kinda brought the cousins together coz we rarely ever meet. when the funeral ended, my dad felt the same way you did, that with grandma gone, we'd have less of a reason to get together as a family (we usually only did when they came to our house - grandma lived with us - to visit during chinese new year). so dad made up family gatherings, dinners at our place, etc. which lasted a couple of months after the funeral before that died out too.
