are you sure you're supposed to get a hysterectomy? i would ask again..a hysterectomy takes out your uterus. an oophorectomy takes out your ovaries..which i doubt you'd need all of your ovaries out..just the cysts.

i dunno? he was really short with me. i only know the hysterectomy part because my mom actually just got it done cuz she had cysts too. but i don't think it's nearly as bad. you'd know better...i hope not. i don't even think it's that serious, he said that the cysts should clear but he wasn't indepth at all so it irritates me. i'm sure i'll be fine,

Ovarian cysts should never warrant major surgery. Yeah, they're painful, but they also often go away on their own. I had one on my left ovary and being on birth control for 5 months cleared it up. Tell the ER to suck it and go see a gynecologist. They shouldn't even be considering removing the ovary. At worst, they really only should be cutting out the cysts, which are just little inflamed bits that hold the eggs that hurt when they pop. They are not serious.

ERs really suck and I am mad that they told you that you need surgery. If you can't afford to go to a regular gynecologist and/or don't have health insurance, go to Planned Parenthood. Their pricing is on a sliding scale so it is affordable to everyone. I know there is at least one in Youngstown somewhere. You should probably have a pelvic exam and an ultrasound, but under no circumstances should you let anyone come near you with a knife before you have seen a non-ER doc.
